Yes, she should see a vet. It sounds like her safety is at risk. Your vet will also be able to spay her.

Yep- many do because they fear their environment. Taking her to the vet might not prevent that, but at least SHE won’t die.

Sometimes very young Does can do that. Please get her to the vet and see what’s up.

By the way, I don’t know if you intended her to have a litter or this was accidental but we don’t promote intentional breeding on this forum. I don’t say this to make you feel unwelcome, just mention it in case you weren’t aware of the forum rule. First and foremost we care for the well being of rabbits and I hope we can help you in making sure your rabbit and her litter are safe. Do you have a good rabbit vet?

Was she bred with a male and you received confirmation of pregnancy by your vet? If not, it’s also possible that an interaction with a male could have resulted in a false pregnancy. Since rabbits are induced ovulators, they can begin to display the signs of pregnancy, even going so far as building a nest, when they are not actually pregnant. I agree that she should be evaluated by your rabbit vet. If something is wrong, the babies would need to be removed surgically.

This is what I am wondering.

I was wondering how you knew she was supposed to give birth yesterday – if it was due to building a nest than the possibility of a false pregnancy crossed my mind as well. Either way, if she’s having any trouble at all, definitely take her to the vet. If there is any kind of a complication she will probably be saved by the vet, or given some meds if there is any possibility of illness or infection. If any baby is in trouble, the vet will help there as well.

(I know that some animals, usually small prey animals, are capable of eating their newborns, usually if it is a stillborn and there is no way to safely remove it from the litter, but it’s not often. Think of it as a survival tactic that allows them to protect themselves and the survivors in the wild from detection by predators. It’s just an ancient instinct.)

I understand.  We’re not saying you are trying to promote breeding. What’s done is done.  At this point, we’re concerned for the rabbit’s health and the health of any babies.

Ditto on both subjects — How is she doing?…. and Belgian hares are absolutely amazing.  Since my personal choice is to only go the rescue route, I doubt I will ever be a slave to one, but I live vicariously through others by watching them on YouTube or googling them.

I also wonder how you got the “expecting” date??

Hopefully it is just a false pregnancy, but if you do believe she is actually pregnant and are having delivery problems, I also recommend contacting your vet.

                                Helloworld!!
