ive had my rabbit spazzy for a little while now. he’s only about two or so months old (not sure) and he’s the nuttiest thing in the universe.

im having a problem getting him to pee inside his box only. he does pee in it but he also pees on the side of the cage opposite the box. i move the box to wherever he pees but he still does the same thing. when he pees in the wrong spot i clean it up and wipe it down with a vinegar water solution but it still continues. i even put hay in the box and the bowl of food and water are right next to it ( he has a corner litter box). ive done all i can think of! i even wipe his pee soaked litter on the walls of the litter box hoping he would get it!  what can i do to get him to understand?

he is a bit odd though, he licks and attepts to bite through my wall (but does no damage) and he licks my bureau too. and when i pick him up he’s fine but he only freaks out when im about to put him down, and i AM holding him correctly. these traits gave him the name spazzy along with his constant binkying when i let him out to play.

Oh my. Only a month old? He is far too young to be away from his mama

At that young, don’t expect stellar litter habits. He will learn as he gets older.

                Okay, thats a better age

At 2-3 months, he is still a baby, it may take him a bit to figure out that the litter box is where to go. Do you have hay in it? That often helps to train them.

You might need a bigger box. Even if he looks like he fits perfectly in it, he might think it’s too small. Both of my rabbits do this. Drives me nuts.

Thats true. Alot of rabbits don’t like the tiny corner boxes. All 4 of mine like the rectangular cat litter boxes better.

cat boxes are awesome. don’t be surprised if your rabbit flops in the box.

he’s getting better. he’s ok with the corner box, when i take him in another room to run around i have the box there and watch him 24/7 and he pee’d in it a few times on his own and only had one litte puddle on the linoleum by the bathroom. im pretty sure he’ll get its soon enough. btw, he’s starting to show his um… “maleness” (testicles) and now we know for sure he’s a boy. HAH i was right my mom was wrong! i was a litte off on the age because we were unsure of his age when we got him.

When he gets bigger, he may need a bigger box My rabbit outgrew hers, and a square box is the best that I’ve ever given her.

well he only pee’s in the wrong spot when im at school or sleeping… and im planning on getting a square litter box with a screen.

im rather fed up with the training! he stopped peeing in the box all together! whenever i move the box to where he pee’s he just moves to the side where i moved the box from. he uses the litter box as a bed instead of his actual bed…

Please be patient with him. Your rabbit is just a baby and they willl not have perfect litter habits. How old is he exactly? Is he off neutering age? That is a common teenage behavior, having bad litter habits and spraying.

I’m glad you are going to get a square box. A second box would be good as well

Don’t underestimate the power of positive reinforcement. My first rabbit, Velvateen learned pretty much on his own and was easy but when I got Fievel, it was a different story. I thought I was doing everything correctly with Fievel and even came on this board to ask questions. He was still peeing outside of his litter box a whole month AFTER his neuter!! Yikes! I started to give him lots of praise (either verbal or maybe a banana chip) when I saw him jump in the litter box to go to the bathroom. That’s what he needed and he doesn’t have accidents anymore. I still give him lots of praise any time I see him deliberately jump in his box and pee. Maybe you could try that!

the problem is that he pees there when im sleeping or at school so i cant really do anything about it.

Rabbits will often use their litter boxes as beds. They’ll even FLOP in it and play There isn’t a problem with that

I bought a pet bed for my rabbit and she refuses to use it. Just climbs in it and messes with it.
