Hi there my bunny is a female american sable and weighs 6lbs when she is laying down her body shakes does that mean she is hot? Also since it is summer time is it ok to let the fan blow right on her all day long?

You don’t want to blow the fan directly on her with her not having an area to get away from it. And besides, rabbits don’t sweat, so fans don’t cool them in the same way they cool humans. What people have done is drape half the cage with a cool, damp sheet and then blow the fan on that from the other side, cooling the entire space without causing a draft.

          There are “Summer/Cooling tips” here…  https://www.binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/Coolin…fault.aspx

The shaking you notice is just breathing and circulation after running around and playing. Rabbits have an incredibly high rate of respiration. Imagine how you would feel after a marathon, that’s how rabbits feel most of the time.

Thanks for the tip. I closed my windows and don’t open my blinds but I have noticed that not opening my window is hotter for her so I do open my window because there is a tiny breeze that blows in. I put a frozen water in her cage but she didn’t like it because she wouldn’t even go near it. thanks for the great tips.

Try to get a thermometer in the room, often it seems cooler with a window open because we sweat and a breeze helps our body cool, but bunnies operate a little differently. I have gatorade bottles with frozen water that I stick in a sock, that might help if she doesn’t like the direct coldness.
