So Sophie is about 4 months old now, according to the shelter I received her from which also had 2 of her brothers..but Im not sure exactly how accurate this is because she came from a slaughter house and I dont know if they relay that sort of info, shes actually bigger than Cady  who is probably about 5 months now but Im not sure if that is due to her being dutch and him being a netherlands mix. mainly Im curious if there are signs to look for that say she is ready… She is a very sweet girl no signs of aggression or nesting behaviors, just not sure if these ar typical.

At about 6 months old is when my vet would spay, regardless of any nesting or aggression being displayed. So another 2 months and she should be good to go

It’s going to depend on your vet. I went to a vet hospital that does spays every week. They had no problem whatsoever doing it on my three to four month old Lionhead. She was very small at the time and I asked if they thought I should wait. They said I could, but that it’s easier for them when the rabbit has less fat around the organs and that it’s easier on the rabbit when it’s younger. Just their opinion based on their experiences, but it put me at ease and I let them go ahead. Recovery time was so fast. My rabbit was eating and pooping soon after the surgery and we got to bring her home the next day. Most vets wait, though, until the female rabbit is a six months; they do whatever they are most comfortable with, so I would just say talk to your vet and see what s/he has to say.

Dutches get to around 4-5 lbs.

My female was sweet at 4 months.. and come 5 months, she was a terror LOL

I got my rabbit spayed at 6 months old.

My vet doesn’t like to spay girls earlier, he likes to make sure they are fully matured first.

3-4 months is very young in my opinion, but like Silly Sungura said, it will depend largely on the vet. 6 months is definitely the average age. Some vets will do it more based on weight… some do it based on age, which can be a bit harder if exact age and breed is unknown.

If your girl has not had a vet check yet, I would have that done and speak with your vet regarding time frames for spays. He/she may even let you schedule the spay in advance for when she turns 6 months old. Don’t wait until she turns 6 months to schedule; you might find yourself having to wait an additional month to get in… with a very naughty bunny!
