I opened a new bag of Oxbow pellets and Bindi is really not crazy about them. He hardly ate any. I would assume it was due to his teeth still being sore but he ate pellets last week. Stormy and Olivia are eating them.

Should I be worried or is it most likely due to a new crop of hay that makes the pellets a bit different? I get really stressed that the bag is bad when Bindi won’t eat it. He’s a really fussy guy though but he loves his pellets usually.

Has anyone ever had a problem with Oxbow pellets or heard of any problems? Not sure if I should buy a new bag or not.  I really wish I had never read that article a few years back about mycotoxins. I know it’s quite rare but I still worry.

Were you giving the old formula before and is that the new bag? Do they smell alright? It really might just be a small variation in the pellets. If you’re concerned, you could contact Oxbow and see if they’ve had any problems with that batch.

Not sure about the smell. This is only my second bag of Oxbow (I used to use Martins) so I’m not really sure what the “normal” smell is.

I haven’t had an issue with them, but with any food product it could happen.

You can probably call them and I bet they would give you a refund or send you a new bag.

For now I would guess it’s just Bindi’s teeth being sore. I would wait it out for another couple days and see if he starts loving pellets again.

Pellets are normally the last food a rabbit will eat after any procedure.

Sometimes the vet will tell you to mix the pellets with a little bit of water to make them soft like babyfood for awhile. so maybe try that.

He ate pellets last week when he was barely eating veggies though. He loves his pellets more than anything.

I posted in the thread about the formula change. Our rabbits went into stasis when I got the new bag. Still not sure if that was it but nothing else changed and this has never happened to them before. They were also not as crazy about the pellets when I first gave them.
