Hi there I was wondering how to make parsley and cilantro last awhile in the fridge? I buy these veggies for my buns and can only keep them 2 days in the fridge because they go bad. thanks

I had that problem to. I found that if I wrap them in paper towel and put them in a container or zip lock they stay more fresh because the paper towel absorbs the water so they don’t get all black and slimy.

This is an older thread that had lots of great ideas. There’s actually a link to it in the Diet section of this site.

I find my greens last longer if they are not wet and allowed to “breathe” somewhat. So not tightly wrapped in plastic or anything. You can try keep parsley out of the fridge by putting the stems in a glass or water. I’ve also kept them in the fridge door this way and put a bag loosely over the leaves.

After I wash the veggies, I use a salad spinner to take some of the wetness off of them, then lay them on a paper towel to air dry for a few minutes before wrapping them in the paper towel and putting them in a produce bag inside the crisper drawers. Sometimes my veggies will still be fresh after a week, but sometimes they do go bad in 3 or 4 days. Cilantro is not one of the better keepers, and neither are the dandelion greens that I get that are shipped in from across the country. Some veggies are fresher than others when you get them, which makes them last longer, but it helps to not have them too wet when they are put in the refrigerator and to go through the bunches each day, pulling out any that are starting to go bad. I try to grow parsley, cilantro, kale, Italian dandelions and carrot tops for my bunnies, which can be picked daily and will always be fresh, but the squirrels dig up or eat most of it, so I have to go out and buy it anyway.
