I was brushing Mocha and Lulu when I found that Mocha’s butt had dense, thick fur. I could pluck some of his fur off of his butt but I couldn’t brush it. As you can see from the video below, Mocha has longer thicker fur then Lulu, But Lulu’s fur is the same all over, Mocha’s gets weird thick and funny looking. Also at the end of the video you can see that Mocha’s butt jiggles a bit when I move it around, but on Lulu I can’t even grab her skin.

So is Mocha just fat and has weird fur down there or is it just a lot of matted fur?

I hope the video works for every one, Please tell me if it doesn’t work.

        Thanks

        Mocha200.

I can’t really tell from the video. However I can tell you on some of my rabbits the fur around the tail and anus area gets clumped and matted – I usually end up plucking the fur around their bum area that is all clumped and matted. They hate this. This fur seems finer than the fur elsewhere on their bodies.

Ok. He still seems to feel fat compared to Lulu. Mocha I can grab his skin/fat but Lulu I can’t.

It looks like Mochas undercoat is just denser, no? Can you run a comb through it? Could it be that the rest of him has shed the extra fur?

Not really…. I wonder if his fur is just like that under him because his belly seems to be like that too. does he seem a little fat to you though? he tends to eat some of Lulu’s pellets and his.

I have no idea if he’s fat or not :/ His fur is really thick though!

Maybe next time I go to the vet i will ask her about his fur.

Haha and why are they on the washer??

They are different breeds right? Is it a new thing that his fur is thicker?

They never go in that room so they are to scared to jump down. If I do it in their room or the living room they would just hop away.

Yes they are different breeds. Mocha is a Holland Lop and Lulu is a Dutch mix. I can’t remember if his fur has always been this thick….

Squirrel already has thicker fur around his butt, and he’s the same breed as Mocha.

Maybe it is just holland lops then

Makes me think I need to buy a different brush for him, his fur is so much thicker than my other bunnies fur.

It looks like a thick undercoat to me. That comb in the BB store works pretty well but you have to stop and clean it out pretty often. I think with fur that dense though it might just hurt him. It pulls a little. You may just get stuck plucking… if yours is like mine, we will send cops to your door if we dont see a post in a couple days under the assumption that bunny has taken revenge on you for plucking. 😉
                                    Good luck

This is a guess from watching the video- but I am guess thicker fur that may or may not shed out. Cotton gets the same thing- and she is a Mini Lop. Schroeder does not have as thick of fur- so he is not like that. I try to use the hairbuster comb to get some of it out- usually at the end of a grooming session as that is a “deal breaker” and Cotton only puts up with that area being groomed so much (and I ALWAYS get fur out of that area).
