As if Mr. Bun-Bun didn’t have enough bad habits, last night I caught him playing in the cat litter box (which is covered). He was digging frantically in it, I don’t think he’s eating the litter or anything, which is the Tidy Cat non-clumping stuff. I assumed he would stay away from the box since it obviously smells like cat urine in there. Are there any risks to him digging in the cat box? I can’t use a box with a swinging door flap because my cat refuses to go in there, of course!

ALSO I am most likely moving across country in June (Chicago to New York.) I’ll have to break it up into two days of probably about 9 hours driving each day. I’ve taken Bun-Bun on 2 hours trips and I noticed he just hides his head in his hay box and doesn’t eat. Should I take breaks and try to feed him some veggies? Does anyone who’s made a long move with rabbits and/or cats have any advice? I know it’s not going to be fun!! Thanks!

The cat litter box might be satisfying his urge to dig. I would recommend making him a “diggy box” full of paper that he can dig in to see if that will help.
As for moving- I have not moved with my bunny- but I am not sure even in you stop throughout the day that he will eat- so it might be best just to get to your stopping point and then see if you can coax him to eat. I would still have tempting things in the carrier for him- he might relax enough to eat after he learns it is not so scary after all.
            CUTE phone cover!!!

When I drove from Portland to california with some buns, i had a little routine. Every 2 hours, stop somewhere. Give them a 20 minute break, offer food and water. Probably his favorite veggies, that may entice him to eat. Have hay in the carrier at all times. Keep music low, talk to your bun. That seemed to help the buns I had with me. Joy, the largest, thumped at me a few times whenever I talked to her… “Joy, how’s the weather back there” “Thump” hehe.

Just take breaks often, let your bun relax a bit. Make sure to top at a hotel where you can have him out to play.

Yeah I am already really full of anxiety for the trip, I don’t particularly enjoy driving on highways, it’s stressful. I also like to blast the music really loudly when I’m driving, which I realize I can’t do with the animals… maybe I’ll find an audio book or something instead. Thanks for the tips… I do have to take my cat to the vet for a checkup first (she’s 12 and hasn’t been in awhile.) The bunny is perfectly healthy, I know that already. I just have to remember that even though the trip won’t be fun for them, they’ll be fine.
AND I have to get the A/C fixed, I don’t mind a hot car but I know it’s not OK for them… so many things to do…

You may also want to start taking him for little car trips now, start short, then drive around a bit more each time, getting him used to longer drives.
