I adopted Tigger, a 6 year old English Spot from a local humane society about 2 months ago. They said he was litterbox trained (exept pooping in his cage a little) and neutered. When I first brought him home he had execllent litterbox habbits up until about a month ago. He now poops outside of his cage and pees on his cage floor but still mostly poops in his litterbox. What can I do to stop the peeing? And maybe get him to always poop in his litterbox? I clean it up right away when I’m home, but I don’t want him sitting in a dirty habitat while I’m gone. This is my first rabbit.

The previous owner never offered him fruits or veggies, so he occassionally has a little bit of digestive issues.

Have you had him checked for a urinary tract infection?

Yes, I took him to my vet, and he doesn’t have an infection, but she didn’t offer much advice otherwise on what to do.

Are you putting hay in his litterbox?

Yup! and I’m using the same litter as his previous owner

That’s odd he had great litterbox habits at first and then they deteriorated. That does sound like a potential health issue, but then, rabbits can just be odd sometimes!

Where is he peeing now? I have a bun who sometimes “overshoots” – while sitting in the box, she backs up too far and pees over the side of the box. There’s a plastic guard thing you can snap on that makes the walls higher that helps with this.

Or if he’s peeing in an entirely new location, I’ve had luck moving the litterbox to that new location. Or once I just bought yet another box so there were 2, one in the old location and one in the new. Good luck!
