        Hey all,

This may be the weirdest thing ever, Jimmy May never used to let us touch her, and would run away if we even made a move towards her. We would get the ocassional stoke of her back as she lept off the couch, and she would happily run over us, using me as a climbing frame, but actual stroking/petting was always a big nono….

        But………

My girlfriend is now 39 weeks pregnant, and now fit to burst. We have noticed in the last 4 weeks, Jimmy is actively seeking attention and petting. She now sits by me on the floor nudging my hand and almost forcing me to rub her ears!!! It is a complete 360!!

Do you think she realises we are soon to be joined by a less furry little one? And is trying to make sure we don’t forget her??? I haven’t read anything about this, and am interested in your opinions!

        Cheers 🙂

How active were you in seeking out her affection? Were you picking her up? Moving her around? “Forcing” love and attention? She may have been annoyed by that and simply did not want to be forced into something (remember they are prey animals). Now that you are going to have a baby very soon I would guess that you both have spent a little less time seeking her out and a little more time making sure that there is room for the baby. With less pressure on her, she may be feeling more comfortable.
I doubt she is thinking in terms of “better secure my place”. I would guess that something in your home has changed, either the amount of time you are around, the amount of attention you are giving her, the love or overall tone in your home, the hormone levels (not sure if she would react to that).
          Those would be my guesses.
Its awesome that she is more affectionate! I hope it keeps up!!!! Whatever you are doing, you must doing it right!

(EDIT) I just thought of this! Maybe its just the season! If you are in the northern hemisphere, its spring!!! My Huckleberry has been a lot more loving too! I bet that is it!!! Season for lovin’

It is possible that Jimmy May is just more comfortable overall in your home now and he now feels comfortable expressing himself. My rabbit Bobby is much more “playful” now with me now that he’s been with me for about 6 months – I think it’s more of a trust and security issue than anything else.
