        Hello,

One of my bunnies, Zatanna, has always had this little bald spot behind her ears but its recently become bigger and the fur behind it looks like its just fallen off of the skin.  I don’t know what that means.  She’s an angora so she has a very fine hair and its pretty long right now.  I normally cut it once it gets this long but now I am hesitant to do so since I don’t know whats wrong with her fur.  And I don’t even want to brush her because I’m afraid of pulling it out even more.

Does anyone know what’s wrong with her?  I attached pictures so you can see.

You may want to take her in to a vet and get her checked out. It could be mites, could be shedding… only a vet can tell you for sure.

Okay thanks for such a quick response. I called the bunny medical emergency person from the shelter and she says that its because they are shedding and the weather and that to keep cutting it short to keep her from accidentally pulling her hair out. She said that to keep an eye on it just in case because if it starts showing any kind of redness or inflammation to take her in.

Definitely keep an eye on it. If the skin gets dry and flakey, thats another reason to take her in too.

So I just cut her fur as short as I could get it and got to take a much closer look at the spot and the rest of her fur and she’s definitely shedding because it was just coming out in tufts everywhere. I didn’t notice any places that were as bald as behind her ears or any flakiness so that’s good. I also think that she is definitely overheating because of the hot temperatures. I’ve been giving them ice cubes and frozen treats all day but I think I’ll take another look at the cooling tips page for some more ideas because the air conditioning in my building won’t be on for another week
