This morning I woke up to some noise and I see Lulu humping Mocha! Mocha is the dominant one in the bond, Lulu has always groomed him and never did much humping. But now! wow. after she humped him he turned around and tried to do it back and then he started chasing her. Then they both sat head to head trying to push each others heads underneath each others, then Lulu acted like she was going to groom him and then started humping again! I went over there and picked her up and went it the living room to calm her down a little bit. when I brought her back in my room I got my computer out and she chinned it! it was the first time I have ever seen her chin something. I know girls are normally the dominant ones in the bond but how could mocha be dominant for almost a year and now lulu wants to be?

right now there are eating hay together in the same litter box, I guess thats good.

what does all this mean? please help

Interesting! Hannah is very dominant, but when I moved them in together Otto humped her for about a week. He’ll even try it now, a year later, though she usually moves off before he can manage it (her bum’s a bit high for him to reach anyway). I think it can be normal for the balance of power to switch back and forth a bit. It might be a way for the submissive bun to say “Hey, I’ve had enough pushing around for right now. Back off.”

Or it could be a little spring fever! Haha. Even the fixed bunnies can be excited by the change in seasons.

Maybe she was just tired of him being the boss. Right after I posted this they went on the second level of there condo and snuggled. crazy buns. It surprised me but most of all mocha! lol.

I was scared when my Oskar mounted Annabelle for the first time! It’s completely harmless, and I think it was his way of communicating boundaries and limits in their relationship. It freaked me out but it’s nothing to be worried about

Sometimes a power shift can happen within a bonded pair. Sometimes strange smells can make one mount the other. Have you been around other animals, petted another bunny or ? and then pet Mocha?
My vet also told me that if a bunny has a UTI infection it can sometimes cause their mate to want to mount — due to a stronger scent.

No I wasn’t around any animals except my cats, but I am always around them. It hasn’t happened sense then so I think she was just upset and taking it out on him.

Boy I bet Mocha was surprised! I’ve seen the level of passive/domination change in all my bunnies combinations over the last 4 years, usually it was just temporary uprising, maybe Lulu was just trying to make a point 😉

My strangest one was Hershey. We took Simba dating and he seemed best with little Hershey, a senior who’d lost her mate a short time earlier. Sarita and the other volunteers said she had been very passive in her bond and she behaved the same way with Simba that day so we thought it would be a good match.

He humped her all the way home. I gave them free run of my bedroom so I could keep an eye on them, Simba had been an only rabbit all his life and he seemed to enjoy the thought of his own ‘harem’.

They were out of the carrier maybe a minute, he humped, she turned and chased his butt around the room until he hid in the carrier and she stretched across the opening just daring him to poke a whisker out of there. It was several hours before she allowed him out but he knew who was boss. She taught him how to be a rabbit and he adored her, but she could be across the room and give him a dirty look and he’d quickly cower into YesDear…lol

Since she had always been so passive, everyone thinks she just decided she was going to wear the pants in this new relationship. 😉

LOL that funny! ” Yes Dear” I wonder why Mocha is dominant if girls are normally the dominant ones.

I’m wondering if this is how Lolli’s gonna be when I finally get her a new friend. lol Eddie was the dominant and so incredibly bossy towards her. So she started out submissive and stayed that way.   Although if I remember correctly, she was the first one to hump.  Then Eddie humped her and they didn’t have any problems so maybe she did try to assert herself.  lol   She did get him back in other ways….like ignoring his grooming requests.  haha

Mocha – I hope things get back to normal for you!  Silly bunnies!  Making mom worry.
