I got my bunny when he/she was 5 weeks old. At the time, the breeders couldn’t tell if it was a boy or girl but said probably a boy. He/She is now 4 months old occasionally pees outside his/her litterbox on my floor. Do female rabbits do this or just males?

I’ve tried sexing the bunny and it looks like it’s a girl, b/c I see no testicals and it’s private part looks more like a slit but it’s so tiny it’s hard to tell. Should it have visiable testicles by now at 4 months? He/she also has a dewlap when laying down so that makes me think it’s a girl also.

        Any idea’s here?

        Thanks so much

Any rabbit at this age (or any age), male or female, might pee outside their litterbox. Have you had your rabbit seen by a vet for sexing. I would schedule this and at the same time schedule the appointment for the spay or neuter.

It’s really hard to definitively sex based on that – we would be remiss to even try based on that :~)

Dewlaps are more common in females, but don’t usually develop until later (8-12 months). Boys can “hide” their testicles, so that is not always a sure indication either. Best thing is to have him/her sexed by your vet.

Both my boys were very “obvious” down there, but I know that isn’t always the case. Like the others said, they can hold them up. Then there is my weirdo Wooly who had one undescended testicle, but it looked like he had two down there. Even fooled the vet until they were trying to neuter him.

My bunny (female) developed a dewlap after 12 months of age.. so, the only 100% answer is to have your vet look your bun over

my girl Monkey didn’t develop a dewlap at all, so definitely don’t use it as an indicator
