Hey everyone, My rabbit Toby … well he’s healthy and I never let him eat things he shouldnt and i give him a good diet anyway, i dont know how much they mean when they say rabbits ‘dribbling’ could be a sign of dental problems. He is not dribbling as saliva dripping down his mouth but whenever i touch his mouth its moist and when he wipes his mouth or face on something its a little bit wet. Does he have a problem or is it normal for rabbits to have abit of saliva around there mouths? He isnt acting any diffrent so he seems fine otherwise. Do i need to get him to the vet and if yes then is there any home remidies I could try first?

There are no home remedies or ways to diagnose teeth problems yourself. He will need to see a vet so his teeth can be evaluated. When was his last vet check-up? His teeth should be checked at every visit, but it is possible for dental issues (especially molar spurs) to kind of “sneak up” all of a sudden.

Diet is very important, but if the teeth are congenitally mis-aligned, the best diet in the world will not prevent dental issues. Hay is the most important thing to help keep the teeth in shape, but some rabbits will always need tooth trimmings.

As Beka says it’s impossible to tell – could be dental, could just be wet from drinking water.

There is not one way a rabbit is going to act when they have dental problems and some don’t even seem to behave or act abnormally at all. Some changes could be drooling, change in eating behavior, drooling, poopy butt – but not always so it’s just hard to assume what could be the problem unless you have your vet look at his teeth to see if there are any molar spurs.
