Hello everyone! This past saturday my girlfriend and i bought a bunny from a local store to cheerish its life time! I would have to say that it’s about 3 months old and it is a hare mix of some sorts- i have a mini rex and a hare at my parents house and i have been with around bunnies for a good part of my life now to understand them and “figure” them out however this bunny, named Pancakes, is a huge “sniffer” All he does is sniff every square inch of our apartment carpet. For hours he does this at a time until i decide to pick him up and pet him for 2 hours + straight (which he loves and gracefully repays me with bunny kisses). When i let him down or stop massaging him and such he happens to sniff my fingers, my hands and gives me lil nips here and there; mind you he is doing the same thing to our carpet.

In all my years of having rabbits, pancakes has me totally stumped on what is going on. I feed him on a regular basis with oat hay, fresh water, and little chunks of carrot when im “training” him. ie: standing on his hind legs, jumping up and down from the couch/bed/my chair and when he succesfully uses the bathroom in his litter box.

        Please help >.

He is new to your home, there are tons of new things to sniff! All of my 3 did the same thing when they first got home, sniff sniff sniff. I wouldn’t be worried about it

Okie dokie. it just totally threw me off; my other bunny was a total lover. all she did was follow me around and nudged to be held and rubbed for hours, occasionally would sniff around. Pancakes must be uber curious. thanks MB

How much is he fed? The reason I ask is, though it is not unusual for a new bunny to be curious, I am wondering if he’s hungry.  He should get more food than an adult does still at this point.  see http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/diet.html#babies

You said he gets Oat Hay and water, but you didn’t mention pellets. I am figuring you do give pellets, just wondering how much?
