I am wondering if I should lower the amount of pellets I give Mocha and Lulu, Becaue when I give them the pellets Lulu runs over and eats some pellets, but then comes over to me and asks for pets while mocha eats all the pellets. Mocha already weighs more than her and looks bigger. I was just wondering what you guys would do.

        Thanks,

        Mocha200

Can you feed them separately? Or at least in separate bowls?

Others may have different answers for you, but I’d lower the amount if you feel Mocha’s getting too fat. As long as they have unlimited hay available, they’ll both be fine. Mocha might get pissy about it though. Obviously it’s not affecting Lulu at all or enough for her to sit there and eat.

can you put the pellets in 2 different areas and then leave and see if Lulu will concentrate on eating her pellets if there is no one to beg attention from?

I will try to leave next time, but if I have two separate bowels Mocha thinks that Lulu has something better and runs over to eat hers.

I don’t use bowls- I dump them on their blanket so they have to forage for them and it takes longer to eat. A bowl makes it too easy to eat a tablespoon of pellets quickly.

Maybe I will dump them on their condo floor.

last night I put one scoop on the bottom floor of the condo and one on the floor out side of the condo. Mocha ate some in the condo then came out and ate with Lulu. He would shove as many pellets as he could fit at once and then chewed, while Lulu picked up one or two at a time and chewed. He is such a PIG! during the time he was eating, Lulu would hop around trying to get out of the pen and then go back and eat some more. I think mocha eats most of the pellets. hmmm… should I lower the amount i give them???

LOL Sounds like Eddie and Lolli. Eddie was a freaking pig and Lolli was so dainty about it. Maybe it’s a male/female thing? lol I think you should lower the amount if Mocha is gaining weight. And I think as long as Lula isn’t losing weight, I wouldn’t worry too much about her not getting enough pellets. She’ll get in there and eat if she’s hungry enough.

I don’t know for sure if he is gaining weight because I don’t weigh him and he hasn’t gone to the vet, I just think he might be…

Well if you lower the overall total, Lulu would get even less right? Jack is like your Mocha. Whatever Vivian has, he wants. If I notice that Vivian is really missing out, I will create a separation where I allow her to eat, and do not let Jack get near her. Many times if i just pet Jack, he doesn’t care about what Viv has. I know Mocha doesn’t like to be pet, but is there a way where you can keep him away from Lulu while she eats? Keep him in the condo and feed her outside of the condo?

Oh…forgot to ask.  So how much pellets do you feed them?

I have tried separating them but she will just eat for a few minutes and then want to go play. she wont just stay still! maybe I will try again though and see.

they get 1/2 cup ( 1/4 for Lulu and 1/4 for Mocha, but I think Mocha gets more then that )

So she is more of a grazer and Mocha is pellet vacuum? That can be really challenging. Are there places that Lulu likes to go more than Mocha? Like the bed or does she hang out in one place more than Mocha? If so, maybe you could just periodically put it there and take it away when she’s not there so Mocha won’t eat it.

Yeah she is more of a grazer. Pellet vacuum! LOL.
She loves to go on the bed but I feed them right before I go to bed so I don’t really want to sleep with her.

Can you change the feeding time?

I could but I wanted veggies to be in the morning and pellet later because pellets take longer to digest. what time could I change it to?

Can you put Mocha in the cage (locked) and then allow Lulu to eat outside (and out of view) the cage? I have the same situation. I do that with my bunnies, as Fievel is the vacuum and Vel is a grazer. I give Vel all of his pellets at once, but I’ll give Fievel about 1/3 of his total pellets every 5-6 minutes. That way he doesn’t have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for Vel to finish.
