So I had about a week’s respite from this problem after his dental, albeit the scattering poops never really stopped. Mimzy is still peeing on his night pen floor and I always have a huge mess to clean each morning. I also see him holding his left rear leg off to the side while he’s sitting (it sticks way out from his body, not at all like the other bunnies) and I saw this leg twitch a few times spasmodically when he was stretching it out for a lie down the other day. Never seen that before.

My good vet won’t be on this weekend, but will be back next…I hate to have to take him in again. Perhaps it is just that he’s aging and his legs are paining him? Should I see about a painkiller for him or could this be something related to his bladder? HIs urnialysis was clear and his bloodwork came back fine after his surgery. So I’m thinking he’s uncomfortable and that’s why he’s peeing outside the box (although the box does get peed in, just not all the time).

Still looking for a litter box for disabled pets…one with a low side.

Going to have him out on my bed today to see how he gets around there where I can watch him closely…with a puppy pad down for a just in case. He really likes peeing on soft things. My bed is a prime target. But he’s so ninja with it, I never know when it’s coming…perhaps he doesn’t either?

I asked meow1 where she got hers for Sunny. It’s a dog litter box from Petco.  I’ve never thought to look into the dog products, only cats ones.

There are ferret ones I’ve seen that have high back, low front.

Those look good, jersey. I still think the Palace Pet Bed swatches of carpet that soak up pee will make him more comfortable. I know they’re not cheap, but they wick away the moisture so he won’t lie in pee for long.

              How old is Mimzy?

Mimzy is 4 years old, roughly. We found him wandering my hub’s business property in May/June of ’07 and his ears hadn’t lopped yet, so he was still a wee baby bunny back then.
He is still holding that left rear leg out funny. He is now peeing near the box mostly, so I am guessing I am just not cleaning it up fast enough for him. >.< Or he needs a bigger box.
I have one of those doggy ones for Jenna that she never used, it is HUGE. Will do fine in the xpen, but no good for the night hab, which is where the mess usually is.
He is currently using a hamster sized sippy that I have to refill a few times a day. He rejected his normal sippy for unknown reasons and no longer drinks from his crock. Perhaps the sippy is just getting too old and I can’t get it clean enough for his sensitive (boogery) nose. For some reason, the new ones in the rabbit size are made of some kind of light blue plastic and he refuses to drink from these. I can’t understand what is so different about them? I mean…buns ARE colorblind, right? 0_o Maybe they’re made from those BPA’s or whatever the baby bottles were made from that the gov’t deemed too toxic to be used? Could Mimzy detect something like that?

Pam, I did order the Palace Pet beds, but they are shedding the plush part everywhere. It won’t take Mimzy five minutes to unravel all that and possibly swallow it. I’ll give it a trial run with supervision, but I can pretty much already tell what will happen. He wouldn’t even tolerate the Binky Bunny packing paper I put in his hab with him…it was shredded in record time.
No worries though, Griffy will adore the beds. Thanks for the reference. Nice people there too.

If he’s not doing better on that leg this week, or is still peeing outside his box, I’ll call my vet and see what she thinks.

Sounds like you need a maid service for his highness Mimzy Picky men!

Moose gets cranky if his pen is left messy too long.. which is tiring as he messes it up less than an hour after you clean it My messy Moosie… ugh! If we don’t clean up his hay and towel mess, he bites bars and tugs at the carpet. lol

hmmm.. Hlow long have you noticed his leg being a bit different? (or has it been a slow progression)

OH…and the color blind thing….they are not fully color blind, they can tell blue and green apart, so they have some limited color vision.
And you noticed the peeing outside of the box with the leg issue?

Also, do you notice if where he pees within his cage is near something like water or food?

I’d say it was both a slow progression and yet seems to have accelerated of late. He began having trouble with the leg first, definitely. He was also missing jumps to his sleeping shelf and falling backwards a lot in the week or so leading up to his recent dental, so I took it out of his habitat completely. Perhaps I removed it too late? Maybe he’d already hurt himself?
His favoring of that leg is definitely getting worse though. I would think if he had broken or cracked it or injured his back in a fall, the doc would’ve noticed something wrong with how he moved, or a lack of movement, while she was putting him under, don’t you? He didn’t fight me much when I had to give him that emergency butt bath when we brought him home from his dental and I’ve never attempted that on him before. Once again, I hope I didn’t move him wrong or not support him properly during the bath. >_<
I made him work for his treats last night by leading him around in circles after it so he’d have to hop. He does hop, albeit slowly. Kind of like an inchworm. Front legs go forward first, then the back ones he pulls forward and drops them with a thud. I do see him stretch them both and he tends to sleep in the ‘superman’ pose a lot too…or in a way that he can still stick that leg in particular out to the side if not straight back. Sometimes when he’s in bunloaf position, he is up on his toes in the back feet…which is kind of odd.
I’m concerned he’s going lame. There’s only a few reasons why this might be so and none of them good ones. There are no signs of sore hock. He will actually sit on his hind legs and balance if I hold something he wants to eat up in the air, we call those ‘bunny-ups’. But he is not steady like he used to be in that position. I watched him wash his ears this morning waiting for him to begin kicking at them with his feet, but he doesn’t scratch after a grooming like he used to. I’m worried. I don’t want to try to get him too move too much anymore for fear I’ll make an already bad problem worse.

He tends to push his hay over next to his litterbox, then pee on it in the back corner. His poos are all throughout the hab and he strews his hay over the top of them or just poops right in his hay. It’s like he’s turned the whole hab into one giant potty box. He drinks from a sippy bottle (he’s given up using the crock, all it does is collect his shed fur) but sometimes I do find he’s peed underneath where that is and this is positioned towards the front of the hab near the door. Is this significant?

BTW, BB…I had to squee in my pants when the BB.com store boxes came the other day…the new ‘snuggle bunny’ (Holland lop) is TOO adorable! I was going to use it to help Fiver and Mimzy bond, but now….(squishies) Shame on you for selling something so KYOOT! ^_^ lolz….
