For the last few days, Ms. Rabbit has been acting a little off. She’s normally a very bubbly, curious rabbit, but for the last few days, she’s seemed tired and not interested in playing or snuggling. I’ll go into the bunny room with treats in my hand, and she’ll just continue laying down – which is unheard of for her. Until today, she was eating normally, didn’t have any visible injuries and didn’t seem gassy, so I just figured that she must be running around while I’m not looking.

Earlier today, I went into the bunny room with pellets in my hand. Mr. Bunny ran up to me and went nuts, as usual, but Ms. Rabit was nowhere to be found. “Rabby-girl! I’ve got yummies!’  …No response. After searching the whole room, I found her scrunched up in a remote part of their maze haven – which is also unheard of for her. I put her by the scattered pellets, and she just sat there, not eating. She seemed vaguely interested in the pellets, but she wouldn’t actually eat them. After a few minutes, she started eating, albeit much slower than usual.

A few minutes ago, I picked her up and snuggled with her for a few minutes. My mother tried to give her a dried-out raisin – Ms. Rabbit’s favorite. She sniffed it, grabbed it in her front teeth, and then just sat there. I literally had to shove it in her mouth for her to eat it. After I put her back down, I gave the bunnies another sprinkle of pellets. She picked a few up in her front teeth and then dropped them again before running back to the maze.

She’s also had one slightly runny eye lately, if that makes any difference. I just swiched to a new (dustier) kind of timothy hay, so it might be related to that. Also, as far as I can tell, she’s still been eating veggies normally.

Could this possibly be the onset of tooth problems or GI stasis, or does it sound like something that’ll pass in a few days?

Definitely the onset of something. Good thing you are diligent in watching her.

Definitely sounds like something’s up – possibly teeth. I would take her to the vet.

If it is something like teeth or runny eye bothering her- her not eating normally can lead to GI stasis as her gut slows down. GI stasis is often a symptom of something- though I never did figure out what caused Schroeder and Griffin’s episode they each had. Maybe it started with a sore tummy and snowballed from there.
Anyway- keep and eye on her to prevent complications from not eating normally.

I think a visit to the vet is needed. It could be one of those possibilities, but there is definitely something wrong. A vet will be able to say, and treat.

                      Sorry for not updating!

Oddly, immediately after I made this thread, she started eating and behaving normally again. She hasn’t had any problems since. I’m not sure what was causing her problems, but apparently it wasn’t serious.

Today I realized what’s been causing her leaky eye. Near the corner of her eye, she has a small red pimple-like lump. It has a small scab on the tip. I suspect that while she was getting used to the long strands of farm hay, she got stuck in the eyelid by a pointy piece. Her eye appears to be fine. For all I know, this could also be why she was acting a little “off” right after I switched to the new hay.

                      Thanks for all your help!
