I was examining my new bunny tonight (this was the first time she really let me get a good look at her) and I noticed the hair around her butt is yellowish. Is that normal? She doesn’t have any poop or anything stuck in it. its just yellowish. Her poops seem pretty normal, they are hard little pellets. She is eating well, too.. Thanks in advance!

It is not uncommon for bunnies that have not been in the most ideal housing to have yellow feet or yellow fur.  The yellow is caused from urine staining- and there is really not much to do about it other than to let it go away on its own/shed out.  A bath won’t do much except to unnecessariy stress the bunny.

All 3 of my bunnies came with yellow feet from being in a typical pet store cage with paper litter or shavings or in Griffins case- he was with his litter still and they had boards they laid on.  But with improved housing and sanitary conditions it will resolve.  I bet most of us here on BB probably adopted our bunnies with yellow feet or fur.  So it is nothing to worry about if it is urine staining.

It may just be that the litter has not been getting changed enough and she’s got some urine stains. If she is new to your home, just make sure to change her litter box regularly and it should get back to white. Some bunnies have a more yellowish tint to their fur though too!
