Hey guys, any idea what kind of hay this is yfrog.com/h0xdauaj? It was a little extra horse hay that my dad picked up from work. I’d heard that horses have very sensitive digestive systems like rabbits so I wasn’t sure if they could eat alfalfa or not and if that is what this is… IT’s either alfalfa or timothy… Any ideas?

It looks more like timothy than alfalfa to me.

I can’t really tell that clearly from the pic but what I’ve noticed about alfa alfa is that it has ‘bends’ or joints in the hay strands, making it essentially have kinks in it that timothy doesn’t. does that make sense? From that I’d say yours looks like timothy as well

But maybe I’m just crazy lol

It could be a mix. I think I can see stalks that look like alfalfa and even a leaf.
Maybe this guide can help? http://www.sandiegorabbits.org/diet/hay_grass.html
If it’s horse quality hay then it’s safe for your bun-buns.

alfala is more stemmy and leaves, broken up little pieces as it’s a legume hay, that looks like a grass hay to me, as it is strandy.
