help! stella had a pile of cecals this morning, and i’ve just found another pile. what does this mean?! (i know you guys talked about it before, and how it’s important to eat them, and if they don’t something’s wrong… but what?!)

        thanks so much!!!

if you are finding piles of cecals around that are not being eaten, it can mean her diet is too rich and she is over producing them. what is she normally eating these days?

Ditto Monkey-too many sweet fruits or starchy veggies, or even too many pellets can cause an overproduction of cecals. It’s not a good idea to make sudden diet changes, but it would be good to move slowly towards hay being a bigger part of her diet.

she’s only 9 weeks old. i was told to give her unlimited pellets and hay. i give her alfalfa hay and a mix of alfalfa and timothy pellets (the pet store had her on timothy pellets with seeds, and i’m trying to get her over to alfalfa pellets, so i’m mixing it 50/50 for now. i don’t even think she eats anything but the seeds, tbh. when i give her the food, she goes NUTS digging through it and only eats some of it. for 2 days she also seemed to not want to be picked up. anyway, i didn’t find any cecals in her cage tonight, and she let me pick her up fine again. maybe it was a weird tummy issue? i hope it’s over!

when do i become concerned about her not eating cecals (in case this ever happens again.)

seeds? If I were you, I’d pick out all the seeds mixed in with her old food, and give just the pellets. It’s possible that its the seed mix that is causing it. Mixed foods are quite bad for buns, they need straight pellets.

Seeds are big trouble. I would definitely try to get her onto a plain pellet. If she’s eating tim pellets already, you don’t even have to ABSOLUTELY switch her to alfalfa, since she’s getting alfalfa hay.
