These 3 wonderful rabbits are in an SF Bay Area shelter and will be killed this SUNDAY, Feb. 20th if adopters or rescues are not found. If you know of the shelter, please do not contact them directly. Please share and cross-post this message! If you can help by adopting or fostering, please contact jumbacat@gmail.com directly, as soon as possible!

Upper respiratory infections are not an expensive condition to treat – often with one or two courses of antibiotics and one or two vet visits, the infection can be resolved. Many vet offices will give you a free first vet visit for adopting a shelter rabbit, including the VCA clinics which have a coupon on their website which you can print and bring with you for a free first visit.

And Eni, the third rabbit, sounds like she just needs and understanding home without small children and a larger space (like an exercise pen, or free-roaming in the house) to be happy – she has no special medical needs. She just needs someone who will give her love and spoil her and help her to learn to trust people again.

If you, or someone you know is able to help by adopting or fostering, please contact the email above! Thanks!

Hello, my name is Bridgette and I’m a 2 year old, female rabbit with an upper
respiratory infection (URI). I’m taking medicine for the sneezing, but with so many
other rabbits and animals to care for, it’ll be hard for me to get healthy quickly at the
shelter. With limited space and more animals showing up at the shelter each day, my
time is running out and I need to find a new home by February 20th. I was just
surrendered to the shelter in January, after a short, 4-day stay with a family where their
child took care of me. It’s hard to know where I picked up the URI, but one thing’s for
sure – some TLC and proper care will make a world of difference in my health!
I’m a medium sized lady with a big appetite for fun, so I’ll be sure to
bring lots of fun and laughter to your home! I’m very energetic and keep
active by hopping around to check things out. I’m also very friendly and
greet new friends with bunny kisses – all that I ask in return is a loving,
forever home! Will you answer this rabbit’s call for help? I’m located in
Northern California. If you can come to my rescue, please e-mail
        jumbacat@gmail.com.

Hello, my name is Chestnut and I’m a
medium sized, female rabbit with an upper
        respiratory infection (URI) and possible
cataracts in both eyes. Although the URI
should clear up after some time, my eyes will
need special attention from the right doctor
and special adopter. The shelter doesn’t
have the resources to treat me so I’m hoping
that someone out there will be able to take
me in! Whether a rescue group or adopter,
this friendly and fun lady needs a miracle by
        Sunday, February 20th!
I arrived at the shelter in December and no one noticed
my eye condition then, so folks didn’t realize that I
couldn’t see them clearly when they approached me. My
reputation was a bit tarnished since I would be startled by
hands appearing suddenly, causing me to grunt a little.
Now that the volunteers know my condition and make me
aware of their approach, it’s been great! I feel safer
knowing that it’s friendly visitors taking me out of the cage
for fun and I can thoroughly enjoy myself during play time.
I even do lots of happy flops and enjoy lounging around,
too. I’m located in Northern California. If you can come
to my rescue, please e-mail jumbacat@gmail.com.

My name is Eni and I’m a small, all white female rabbit. I’m spayed and
about 1-1/2 years old. I came to the shelter in October of 2010 and although
I was nervous when I first arrived, the volunteers were kind and patient and I
really enjoyed getting TLC and having play time. Soon after arriving, I was
spayed and it’s been very tough ever since. Although the volunteers still visit
and I get my play time, I haven’t adjusted to life here with the loud noises,
strange people and limited time to be myself. In frustration, I’ve become
cage protective and bit a few people, so the shelter can no longer support
me. I have until Sunday, February 20th to find a new home or for a rescue
group to take me in before I am euthanized. Would you please help this
young lady? I’m a sweet gal, but my personality has been buried inside. The
volunteers have noticed that after I’ve had a chance to be away from the
cage and play outside, I am much more relaxed and easy-going, and even
attention-loving! I am sure to blossom with your patience and love! I’m
located in Northern California. If you can come to my rescue, please e-mail
        jumbacat@gmail.com.

I hate that these beautiful 3 (& so many others) are on borrowed time. I wonder if their past owners know what path they are on?
I pray some human angels step in and let these rabbits live a full & happy life.
Thank you for the work you do Anne.

We still need homes for these three bunnies – they are scheduled to be killed at the shelter tomorrow, and I’m so worried!  Please spread the word!

If you’re outside of the Bay Area, but could adopt, we may be able to arrange transport…

            Help!

I’d take one in a second. do you have contacts with any reputable long distance pet transport companies?

RE: Eni–Sounds like an independent lass. Bet she’d like to be a backyard bun (after seeing a vet and waiting for warmer weather.)I have had a “volunteer” backyard bun now for about ten months who I’ve never been able to trap–too much yummy stuff in the yard to eat. Rusty(M/F) gets some bunny chow and organic baby carrots but won’t take them from me. S/He’s kind of buddy-buddy with one of my two indoor/ outddor cats but might like a bunny buddy. I realize sunburn could be a problem for an albino bun, though there’s always shade available. What do you think? Also , would donations make a difference for the two sick bunnies?

longhairmike, thank you so much for your offer – the only way I know to do cross-country rabbit transports safely is to fly a person, and the rabbit could be transported with the person.  If you think a round-trip plane ticket from the SF Bay Area might be in your budget, please email jumbacat@gmail.com tonight.

Bunfan, thank you for your offer to have Eni as a backyard bun – the shelter has a indoor-only rabbit adoption policy, and while you and I might agree that living in a backyard would be better than death, it would be against their policy (there are a lot of predators out there – shelters/rescues have all heard a lot of really sad stories, which is why the policy exists).  Also, rabbits are very territorial, and it would be extremely dicey to introduce a new rabbit into the territory of an unfixed rabbit – I have seen viscious rabbit fights, and I’d hate for you to end up with injured rabbit(s).

I wish donations for the sick bunnies would stop this – unfortunately, when the shelters decide they have too many, they decide on some that they think are the least adoptable, for whatever reason (sometimes the reason is completely fictitious – invented diseases), and put those down.  It’s a really sad situation — I’m keeping my fingers crossed that perhaps someone has just come forward, or someone will be moved to come forward tonight and it won’t be too late.  Again, if you can help, please email jumbacat@gmail.com ASAP.

the cheapest human flights on such short notice were $900-$1600, and the fedex live animal hotline says they dont do mammals (wtf??)

I just got news that Bridgette, the other bunny with a URI, has found rescue!!  Three of the four rabbits are now safe.

Eni is the last bunny at risk, and still in need of rescue before tomorrow (Sunday) morning.  Eni has NO medical issues, she’s just a white bunny w/pink eyes who is cranky because she’s been cooped up in a cage. Want a huge reward? Open your heart to Eni and see what a beautiful bunny she will become.  If you can help, please email Julia at jumbacat@gmail.com.

longhairmike – if it ends up looking like the relocation service is possible, please email Julia directly right away.

                            Which is the 4th rabbit?

It’s great something has happened for Bridgette and Chester. Now that the shelter has placed 2 rabbits with a Rescue isn;t the pressure relieved a little? Could they not postpone things for Eni? Or is it policy…they’re there a certain length of time then put to sleep if not taken?

Just want to add there is a Yahoo group that list people willing to temporarily house rabbits while owners make arrangements to get them.
                              Called Rabbit Relay. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rabbitrelay/

Great news!  ALL FOUR rabbits are now safe! Eni has an adopter near Seattle, and she has a local foster home until transport can be arranged.  Such a relief!

Anybody driving from the SF Bay Area to Seattle anytime soon?

The “fourth” was actually the first one to find rescue, so wasn’t pictured in this thread.
