I have a 3 year old female indoor rabbit.  I let her out of her cage after I get off of work so she can play around for a few hours.  The thing is I have carpet and she has bedding in her cage.  I will admit I don’t cut her nails as short as I should but I make it a habit to cut her nails a lot because of not cutting them all the way.  Just the other day I was holding her and just examining her.  I checked out her feet.  Majority of her back feet nails are split underneath from the tip to the toe.  And there is only a few like that on her front feet.  She doesn’t chew her nails nor is ever on a hard scratchy surface.  When I was looking at her nails she didn’t act like her nails were hurting her, and when I put her down she was running around and jumping like normal.  Is this normal? Should I call the vet? Is she not getting enough vitamins? And am I doing something wrong?  And besides all the other questions I have what causes this?  Any insight will be very helpful to me and Bunny!

I am not sure if this is normal or not and would suggest a vet visit.

What is her diet? As long as she gets limited timothy based pellets, tons of hay, and greens, her diet would be a-okay and should not be the cause of nail splitting.

I do a monthly nail trim on my bunny, and I only clip off very little. I can tell she needs a trim when I see her nails peeking out from under her furry paw.
