So when I went to the store to get some food for Peter,

I assumed I was to get Hay AND pellets.

They did not have a verry big selection of food though,

I picked up some “Timothy complete” though.

In my rabbits for dummies book, it says not to get alpha based pellets, so mine are timothy based.

but then My mom asked well if they’re getting hay in the pellets do they really need hay seperately.

and I was a bit confused.

so can anybody help me out here?

They DO still need hay right?

Yes, they absolutely need hay. The majority of their diet should be a grass hay like timothy. Timothy Complete is perfect.

They need hay to keep their gut moving and this is also what will help “grind” down their teeth. Pellets should only be a small part of their diet. They also need greens.

Exactly what Sarita said- limited pellets- these can be helpful as they provide a constant supply of vitamins and minerals. But some bunnies do not get pellets at all due to specific dietary needs.

That’s a very good question! It can be confusing when pellets are hay and hay is… well, hay. Think of pellets as a “vitamin supplement”… just a small bit each day, hay is always available.
