In a rabbit-picture group I belong to, a girl posted a picture of an earless rabbit that her rabbit recently gave birth to. she sold all of the babies except this one. With her permission, I reposted the picture here

She said that the vet told her that he can hear out of one side of… his head, I guess, and that he’s healthy besides this defect.

        Isn’t he a cutie?

He is ADORABLE! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rabbit born without ears!

Does the girl plan to keep this one as a pet? I’ve only seen earless as a result of a fight or injury. The buns seem to manage well without them. It must look a bit like a guinea pig. Sweet none the less!

Yes, she’s going to keep him as her pet. (: I’ve never even heard of an earless rabbit in any case before.

                Very cute!

At the shelter we had a rabbit with almost no ears – hers were probably bitten off accidentally by her mother when she was very young (sometimes mothers overgroom small babies). She was perfectly fine, though I did notice she didn’t like to be touched near her ears (though that could’ve been her personality and had nothing to do with the ears themselves).

Very cute! I love the spot on his nose.

I wonder how rare it is for a bunny to be born that way? I’ve heard of bunnies who lost their ears due to injuries, but I’ve never heard of a bunny being born without ears.

So adoreable!  I’d wonder about stuff falling down into the “ear holes”, though.  Maybe the bun needs a little bonnet?!

I rather think the mother ate them when she was a babe.  They do strange things sometimes.   Looks kind of odd.   Glad she is being kept for a pet.  Thats good.   I am sure she will do just fine.   She can still hear I am sure.

My friend whenever she would take a pic of 1 of her rabbits  she would fold her ears all the way back.  You couldn’t see ears at all lol.   Silly rabbits.

What a strange birth defect for a bunny rabbit! Can the vet determine why that would occur? Such a defining characteristic for a bunny. Adorable nonetheless!

There is still lots to do in the world of rabbit medical. I am curious to see how it advances and what can be found out!
