I have noticed that a lot of bunnies seem to be shedding fur right now. One of my rabbits suddenly started going through a heavy shed yesterday, and both of my bunnies went through a light shed a few weeks ago.

I’m just curious if a lot of bunnies really are shedding right now.

Monkey just had a full blown coat recently, and moosie and smudge just started shedding, although lighter than monkey’s was, thankfully lol.

Otto is shedding hardcore at the moment, but Hannah isn’t shedding at all. She seems to shed less times a year than he does for some reason, but I expect she’ll be shedding too in a month or so.

Merry doesn’t seem to have stopped shedding! I swear I’ve brushed up enough fur to knit a jacket for a baby!

And Sammy seems to never shed. I’ve never seen such a constantly smooth bunny. Those tiny lines might appear and disappear so quickly that I think I’ve missed it. Mostly I know she’s shed some when I vacuum the inside corners of her xpen and discover there are tufts wedged next to the wall. It’s so strange.

I wonder how shedding works with rabbits.

Could you turn up the heat in your house very much and perhaps make them shed earlier?

Peppy is having a major shed.  From all the loose hair I’m amazed he’s not bald!  With my dogs, the shedding seems to have been heavier in the summer.  Is that the case with bunnies too?  How long do the heavy sheds usually last?

I’m not sure Huckles ever stops shedding lol
She started showing tufts around her cheeks and neck last week. She sheds in such an off pattern. One time it will be from cheek to butt, the next it will be from butt to cheek. The cheek to butt ones dont seem to be as bad. The butt to cheek ones seem to last forever!

Wilbur never sheds! She’s the softest bunny I’ve ever felt. And she is super fluffy without being long haired. Totoro is going through a light shed right now though, he loves being brushed.

I feel like when it’s time I’m going to wake to my room with a layer of white and gray fur everywhere though… Lol.

Yup one of my buns is having a heavy shed. It started a couple of weeks ago with the tips of his ears and a few days ago he starting shedding on the rest of his body. It’s even changing his fur colour.

My other bun isn’t shedding though, although she had a light shed a couple of months ago.

Hi Marshall91, yes it is always recommended to start a new thread to help better answer your question and also not “hijack” another member’s thread. We also don’t like pulling up old threads as well as it is confusing for members.

But no worries on this one, just keep that in mind for the future to start a new thread :~)
