I was planning on fostering for a friend of mine, as some of you know, and she has just informed me that she thinks Bunny has blockage. She said that Sunny is still her normal self, but her poops are very small. Is there any other possible alternative that causes small poops? And if not, is there anything she can do for Bunny in the meantime before she can make a vet appt?? I told her that she needs to get Bunny to a vet ASAP, but her mom, (who currently has Bunny living with her while my friend lives in the dorm) thinks they should put her down. I was horrified because this isn’t the end. Am I wrong? I know there has to be something she can do…

Well small poops doesn’t necessarily indicate a blockage. Is the rabbit eating? She needs to encourage the rabbit to eat more hay and to move around.

Also I would tell her to give the rabbit some fresh leafy greens as well. She can wet them down too.

She said that she is moving around normally, but normally she is quite lazy. And Bunny is eating normally as well.

Oh, yes she has been doing so with Kale and all of those other greens that are supposed to help.

Is the rabbit drinking enough water? If Hatter isn’t drinking enough he has smaller poops…

Yes, definately check that out. Offer bowl and water bottle.

Goodness no it isn’t the end ! Small poops are better than no poops. Best help is water, fibre, and minimise stress.  Small poop indicates a gut slow down, not full stasis.  Even in full stasis there is treatment. I hope your friends parents are willing to take therapeutic route if needed.

Definitely not the end…..no poops might mean a blockage, but not even then is that for sure-could be stasis too if there are no poops. Small poops are indicative -usually-of dehyration or too little fibre. Step up hay, encourage activity and water drinking and the bun should be fine. Wet veggies, as has been suggested, works great too. Also small poops can mean the bunny is shedding-again treat with more hay
