I turned my back for one second and Dorie was nomming on a piece of gorilla tape we had in the living room. (It’s holding together a piece of furniture, long story haha.) Now she has a strip of tape stuck onto her dewlap. I tried to tug it off, thinking it was loose, but it’s actually stuck pretty well to her skin. Cutting the hair isn’t an option because she’s a Rex and her fur is already close to her body. I don’t know what to do. My roommate said to just rip it off, but I really don’t want to do that. It’s stuck on there pretty good.

Please help.  Do you think skin so soft would work? I don’t want to irritate her skin. The only good news is that she didn’t ingest any!

Try wetting it to see of it will soften the glue.

Poor thing. I wouldn’t use skin so soft. It’s too fragrant for her little nose. I would try wetting it like Sarita said.

you might try pulling the fur/skin away from the tape rather than the tape away from the fur. It works with burrs and horse manes.

use some sort of oil! like baby oil… that should make the sticky on the tape not sticky. Maybe try different things on a piece of tape to see what makes it less sticky…. I would try a little bit of olive oil on your fingers and work it in if you don’t have baby oil I hope you got it off by now! If you did, how did you manage! Franz got into some gorilla tape too but just a little piece

I would not rip it off.  You can try getting it wet as others have suggested to see if that helps.  Or you might have to take her to the vet- they might be able to carefully use clippers to get it off.

I would also recommend contacting the company to see what they say- I am not familiar with this type of tape- but I am sure this has happened to other pets!

                      How’d did you go?

The dewlap area is pretty much a “no touchie” zone for most buns so I don’t envy you at all in trying to get that tape off.

I had thought oil would work too. You can get mineral oil that is food grade. You’d have to wipe off the oil after but even if a rabbit ingested some of it when cleaning itself, it’s not toxic. It has a laxative effect but if you could wipe most of it off I wouldn’t think the residue left would cause any upset.

The oil sounds like a good idea.. maybe Vaseline/petroluem jelly would work too? I use it to take off my waterprroof mascara, which is nearly impossible to remove with anything else. I just don’t think it would be as safe to ingest as the oil, so it would require care to be sure it’s not eaten somehow. Of course it had to get stuck on the dewlap too- one of bun’s most highly guarded areas! It’s horrifying, the things they get into- they’re worse than toddlers. Good luck with this- I’m sure it will be fine
