It appears that Merry’s beginning a big shed.  Being a new bun-owner, though, I don’t know the best way to brush her.  I’ve read a bunch of articles, etc., but I just can’t get her to sit still for anything except those rubber electrostatic brushes (which work okay, but now I have to get a lot more hair out and neeed something toothy!).  She’s starting to really get a lot of fur in her litter box  and I want desperately to reduce the amount that she’s ingesting.

        Please help!!!

I sometimes use the pluck method – just pluck the big clumps of fur off – have a trash can nearby. They don’t like this but it works. You can also dampen your hands and run them over her to help pick up fur.

Make sure she has plenty of hay and encourage hay eating during her molt.

I have the same problem with my bunnies. The zoom groom doesn’t grab enough fur and they really won’t tolerate the other brushes. I also use the pull method. Instead of just grabbing clumps I start at the head with a pet, run my hand down the length of the bun with my fingers apart and then close my fingers on the loose fur and pull it away. Does that make sense?  I do this while they are eating their pellets and they love it. The only thing is that Smokey’s mane is so long that I really do need to attack that with the brush sometimes because finger brushing doesn’t always do the trick. In this case I just give a quick brush before he hops away.

              Thanks guys!

I have been using the pluck method – she’ll tolerate that a little longer. She should be happy she’s getting extra pets out of this LOL! I’ll try the wet hand method too!

I like using a boar bristle brush for kids from the drugstore. If you mist it with water it takes out loose clumps of fur fast, so the rabbit won’t need to stay still for long.

Hugo didn’t like to be groomed but if I did it while he was eating his dinner he was fine. He preferred for me to use a flea comb on him. He eventually just knew that dinner time was also grooming time. =)

has anyone ever tried a FURminator? I have three huskies and a horse in addition to my bunnies and I have always had great sucess with the FURminator.
