My poor Franz I think has gas… He has soft stool earlier today and tummy grumbles. He’s sitting here and it occasionally smells kinda like poop/ garlic/ onions (hasn’t eaten any). I have him on just hay right now… should I keep it like that for a day or two? Or should I give him his 1/4 cup of pellets tonight? I’m not giving him veggies for 48 hours. I think it mighta been too much parsley; I saw some people giving it as a remedy for wool block so I’d imagine it might cause some stool softening. His poops seem better now… still oddly smelly though…

Is there any chance that he might have eaten garlic/onions or a piece of human food that had garlic/onions?

If you think he has gas, I’d suggest giving him a small dose of infant’s gas medicine (Simethicone). One of my rabbits is very sensitive to diet changes, so he gets gassy very easily. Usually the Simethicone does the trick.

It’s probably good to give at least some pellets tonight, as long as he’s eating hay.

Are there any chances the soft stools are cecals? These are very pungent and wet-looking and usually look like a cluster of grapes, but if they got smushed they might look different. Also, rabbits can drop territorial poops that look more like normal droppings but have a “mucusy” coating that is very smelly.

What veggies is he getting? You could remove the parsley if that is new but still offer his other normal veggies in a limited amount. Soft stools are usually not caused by veggies. If it isn’t any of these things and he isn’t back to normal by later today (Monday) or Tuesday, I’d see about getting him into a vet.

An oniony odor from a rabbit does not mean the rabbit ingested onion or garlic. This scent is produced by their scent glands to mark territory with scented droppings. Parsley is not one of the gas-producing vegetables either.
Is he uncomfortable, is his tummy hard? he may just be emitting the marking odor…. is he neutered yet?

Regular poop isn’t smelly, but they can excrete a mucousy coating on some poops and drop them here and there to mark their territory. Also, male urine can get very musky during puberty.

His tummy is audibly grumbly! It possible that he is just going through puberty.. He is my first bunny and I’m still learning! He seems really happy and energetic… I’m taking him to the vet tomorrow anyway so we’ll see…

Keep us posted on his visit, what they do and what they say about his tummy gurgling. See if you can get a fecal check as well.

Did you feed spinach or other vegetable that can cause gases in your rabbits?

If yes, then don’t feed these kind of vegetables again. Your bunny cannot handle it.

I think he’s doing good. I gently massage his gas bubbles out and he likes it lol. No hard tummy and his poops are good. I think what I thought was bad gas was him beginning to make bunny musk lol he hit bunny puberty and I think that’s what it was. Much stronger now and he wipes his smell on everything -.- I can’t wait to get him neutered to improve the onion smell lol
