So I have had my kitten since Sunday and he has had watery stool since then. It has progressively gotten worse and not can he clear a room, he can clear a house! He is soooo stinky. He eats well and drinks a lot of water. He is playful and sleeps a lot. I took him to the Vet today because he had it so badly he couldn’t even make it to his litter box this morning That is not like him so far he is very well litter trained. They tested him for everything under the sun. They said that it may be the sudden change of food and gave me some worm meds just to make sure he doesn’t have them. I feel so bad for him. He is pooping straight water. I read that you should cut them off of solid food and give them mashed pumkin or sweet potatoes and chicken broth. Am I supposed to cook it first? May be a dumb question but I want to make sure I do it the right way.

Can you find out what kind of food he was on before? Switching back to that would be the best thing. ANd then gradually switching him to whatever you have for him currently, just like you would for bunnies. I ahve never heard of giving cats pumpkin or chicken broth or anythign like that.

I would think that switching him back would make it worse. It’s been 6 days since he had the other kind. I don’t know though. He is on worm meds so maybe he does actually have worms. I just hope he gets better soon. Poor little guy.

He will need some solid food – just like with people the more solid the food, the more solid the poop. Expect a little bit of blood in his poop when it starts getting more solid though, it just means that his system isn’t used to the solid poop.

How old is the kitten? You might want to see about putting him on a tinned kitten food and having some dry kitten food available for him. There’s also a stuff called Nutri-Cal, it comes in a tube and is a nutrition/vitamin supplement. Don’t give him too much of it though, just a little. I’m giving it to 2 of my foster kittens right now, one of them likes it and the other doesn’t care for it.

They said he was 12 weeks but his papers say 14 weeks. Tinned Kitten food? The soft canned stuff? I’m going grocery shopping in a few minutes so I will pick some up for him. Is there anything I can give him that is bland like brown rice? I also read that may help. Thank you for your response. I feel so bad for him. Also, is it normal for a 14 week old kitten to sleep most of the time? He plays but not for long. He is more of a cuddler. He always looks for me then crawls in my lap and goes to sleep. It’s sweet but should he be more awake and playful more often? Maybe he just isn’t so much because of his tummy issue. Poor boy.

It’s probably because of his tummy. I’ve had a few foster kittens that were snugglers but they still like to play from time to time.

You’ll want to have him on kitten food right now, it’s got more nutrients in it than adult food and is easier for them to digest than adult food. Just look for stuff that says “kitten” on it. The tins are typically smaller in size than the adult tins, or about the size of the adult Fancy Feast kind of stuff. And don’t forget the kitten dry food too. Oh and on the tinned stuff I’d say go with cheaper store brand stuff, the shelter sends Iams with ours (because they have sponsorship with Iams) and they much, much prefer the storeband stuff.

If the kitten doesn’t seem interested in it then you can try to warm the tinned food just a little, sometimes they prefer it warmed.
