So just a fun behavior thread about what our bunnies do when they want to let you know you’re making them mad!  Haha. Otto’s been mad at me a lot lately, and he’s funny when he’s mad, so it inspired me to start this thread.

Since bonding with Hannah, Otto really doesn’t like pets from us (unless he’s snuggling with Hannah already, then he loves them – strange rabbit). He used to like if I stuck my hand in the maze to pet him, but now he gets very upset because he’s confined and can’t run away. His new tactic is to whip his head around and put his mouth on my hand to tell me to leave him alone. He’s even gone so far as to put his teeth on me, without actually opening his teeth or biting me. Haha. I’m impressed he’s so restrained! I always tell him to “use his words”  I leave my hand in there and pet him a couple more times, so he doesn’t get away with it, but then I leave him alone, since he obviously wants me out of there. What a grouch!

The other thing he’ll do when angry is rip at something – if he’s near a phone book or piece of cardboard he’ll start ripping and shredding it in anger because he can’t make us go away. Hah.

Hannah never seems to get angry, but when she gets stressed she bosses and chases Otto around for fun.

I get thumped at, footflicked at.

Chacha refuses to let me pet her. She runs away

Otto sounds like a smart little bunny if he can restrain himself like that. Dustor did the second thing Otto does. the other day when I took all his hay out of his hay box before giving him fresh hay, he didn’t know what to do – he zoomed around letting off steam, then attacked his mini-haven walls with vigor like Otto does. Then he came out and did a binky straight up in the air – he was fit to be tied! I chuckled when he did an outraged binky to me. i quickly put fresh hay in his box and tried to arrange it as much as possible like he had arranged it, half hanging out and with a fresh flake in the corner. He stomped off to his mini-haven room where he sat sulking and wouldn’t give me the time of day! Binkybunny told me that wild rabbits will binky to intimidate another rabbit when they are having battles. She confirmed that what Dustor had done was a binky all right – but distinctly not from happiness- rather, a binky in battle-mode!!

Lashkay, that is hilarious! I never knew they could binky in anger. Silly Dustor! It’s also hilarious that you enraged His Majesty just by moving some hay around. What picky buns we have.

Otto’s pretty smart – he’s never bitten us (aside from nibbles as a baby) so I think he decided early that biting is off limits. Though I think the more we tick him off the further he’ll go – it started with the mouth, but now I’ve definitely felt teeth, so I wonder if he’ll open his teeth and put them on me next. Geez, I just want to sneak a few pets! Now I try to get Hannah to come over for pets, because as long as she’s there he’ll snuggle down and let me pet him all day long.

Well, Hugo has only thumped once since I have had him and it was because I set him on the floor at the vet’s office. He gets upset when I have to clean his feet (3 times a day) and when I set him back down he starts digging at the floor for a few seconds. Then he’s done. Silly boy. At least he doesn’t hold a grudge. I’d be in trouble if he did.

Monkey will growl and charge at us when she is cranky… such a scawy wittle bunbuN! lol. Moose doesn’t get mad… he’s too much of a shy sensitive little man.. he just goes and hides til the scary, or distasteful stuff goes away. Smudge will thump loudly and make little grunt noises.

Thump thump thump thump *run a lap of the room flicking my feet* *THUMP!* I shall now sit here with my back to you whilst grooming, you do not deserve my acknowledgement. If you decide to investigate my moodiness, I will box you. Leave the raisin there, I will not lower myself to eating from your hand.

That would be Oxo, every single night after his meds…

Lolli thumps, growls, and gives me her butt all the time. It’s a bit funny cause she doesn’t really growl as much as anymore. She used to growl whenever I gave them food. LOL Just to make sure we all knew not to mess with her. haha

Otto grunted at us a few times, when my husband was sticking his hand in the maze and really ticking him off. It was like a little pig grunting. lol My husband and I still make the sound to each other when we’re ticked off about something! Haha.

I can never get thumps out of my bunnies like some of you. The only time I’ve been thumped at is if I really startle them and scare the pants off of them, then they’ll thump a bit at me.

Lucy will grunt. A lot. She’s a very grunty bunny when she’s displeased! She’ll put her ears completely flat against her back, and take an aggressive stance. Then she boxes and grunts. I hate seeing it because I know how much it takes to get her that upset!

Sigh. Samantha has been boxing since I got her. She also growls now, sets her teeth with restraint, thumps and foot flicks.

If that doesn’t work, she calls the IRS and has me audited.

Dustor also thumped his displeasure at me at disrupting his itinerary!  He started out the shyest, most timid little fluff of fur, now he’s mister…well, you got it, Elrohwen – His Majesty! Cheeeeez….   He thumps quite a lot, as a preventative to me disrupting his haven, probably. Petie hasn’t thumped yet but he will yank whatever treat I profer him, out of my fingers impatiently.  He’s like, “gimme that! WHAT are YOU doing with it?”  Dustor is a little more sedate when it’s time for his papaya bits, it’s more of a ritual with him that he savors although he’s RIGHTTHERE at the pen gate and stretches his little head out the gate when it’s treat time.

                                          cute thread!

Lashkay, I’ve seen that peeved binky too. I would see it when herding the rabbits back indoors. It always looked like the equivalent to giving someone the bird. Maybe tha binky is that evasive instinct they have.

@ RabbitPam, that is Jersey to a tee. Ignore it, it’s all bark.

Jersey paws and grunts etc but I really take it as her communicating style. She doesn’t display real anger when doing this and she’ll be doing it one minute then licking my clothes the next. One thing that makes me laugh is when she bites the heck out of clothes or a towel. For instance, if I have her up on the washing machine to be brushed, she gets angry and takes it out on the towel. It’s funny to see the intensity and her ears bobbing away. When she’s doing that she’s so engrossed I can pretty much do what I want and brush away.

Jerseys MAIN thing is to pee on the floor. The less said on that the better !

Jersey also foot flicks. She’ll do this when I offer pats instead of food. I often see her do it when she goes into their hidey box behind the chair. I always thought that if we were another rabbit in the wild, this would be like having dirt flicked in your face. But the other day it suddenly occured to me that maybe they do this to cover their tracks before they go underground????!

I’ve heard growls out of Rumball too and they catch me unawares as there less frequent but louder & deeper. It can make me jump but i do as Elrohwen does too:

I leave my hand in there and pet him a couple more times, so he doesn’t get away with it, but then I leave him alone, since he obviously wants me out of there. What a grouch!

He does the feint to bite thing too. And he digs at towels or mats when disgruntled. Oh, and thumps sometimes. They pretty much do the entire repertoire of “bunny not happy”. That could be because I tease them.

My bunny throws a temper tantrum when she’s mad haha. She goes into her cardboard box house and grabs a corner of the door or window and lifts and shakes the box back and forth from side to side. She’s strong like the Hulk!

This thread is very a propos this morning. I went to give Sammy his breakfast veggies and as usual he charged the bowl like it was his last meal. He went at it so fast that he knocked his head against it, and proceeded to turn around very outraged and foot flick me. I mean… you did this to yourself buddy lol

He’s also gotten into this bedtime routine where he shakes the sides of his pen so bad to show is displeasure at being locked in there, that he moves his pen out of shape and off of his foam mat flooring. I’ve had to reinforce it with a stool and heavy litter bag temporarily and will go buy bricks to hold it in place this weekend. He only does this until the lights are off and then he gives in and sits down in his bed lol That’s where I always find him in the morning when I wake up, and at night when I get home from work: sitting in his bed and glaring at me with distaste at having been abandoned lol.

Otto ran his head into the water bowl once as my husband was setting it down and got water sloshed on him. He sat in a little bunny loaf looking very angry for 5 whole minutes. Poor bunny!

Pacey grunt and bites as hard as he can if you are doing something he doesn’t like. If he is just ticked off about something he will go all the way back into their room and throw the water bowl lol. His new thing is if I give Walter a treat before him instead of nicely taking the treat like usual he will take treat and part of my finger. My jealous little grouch =P

The only time I have seen Walter angry is when I clean the litterboxer or move them into a different spot. He protests by tipping them over (they are now attached to the wall) and then starts at one end of the house and poops in each room as much as he can. Little stinker!

I took some poops off, then turned the bedspread down and he came over and nudged my hand. Then I rearranged it further and apparently he’d had enough – he lunged and bit my palm! I let out an “ouch!” and impulsively slapped him on the rear whereupon he ran away. Later that morning, I crinkled his papaya bit bag and he came over for a treat. As he munched it, I stroked his forehead and he put his head down receptively. Boy was I rattled though – that was the only time since I first got him that he ever bit me! He must have been pretty enraged with my fumbling with his bed.

When Merry gets miffed (generally when I don’t give her food), besides from the occasional foot flick, she mostly decides to play basketball.   She’ll pick up in her mouth whatever’s handy (a tiny willow basket or the multicolored wood ball w/the nut inside, generally), rear up onto her hind legs, then take the object into her paws and throw it like it’s a basketball.  It’s the cutest thing

Man, I bet it sucks being a bunny because no one will take you seriously when you’re upset because of the cuteness. haha.

Although if she is seriously peeved (i.e. I’m giving her a haircut) she’ll put one ear up and one down. That means-well business. She won’t take a treat but will bite my finger if I have the audacity to offer a treat while she’s angry.

Whereas Rupert or Noot will accept treats as making up

Rupert foot flicks and shows me his bum. Noot is very much the same. Neither are stompers but both will give me the middle finger by foot flicking (get it after every nail trim).

The first time he binkied was when I caught him in the cupboard under my stairs and I bopped him out and he ran round and binkied like mad. Since he binkies for all sorts of reasons like the door to the stairs is closed, he gets told to get off the couch etc. I’d say it’s about 50% angry binkies and 50% excited. He never thumps or bites just crazy binkies!
