Well the pipe between the walls here sprung 7 leaks.    4 weeks ago someone came to the neighbors downstairs cuz her paint was bubbling up. He said oh no it is just the paint.

Well… the lady beside me been calling about water on her floor.  The maintenance said oh just your frigie’s drip pan needs to be emptied and left it at that.

Downstairs 2 days ago water started coming from her ceiling bathroom ligtt the downstairs neighbors did.  She called I called.  NO one came.  There was an emergency across the street with sewage and electric.   So downstairs saw the supv. and called him over.

They came first thing this morning took out my toilet cut a hole in the wall found the 7 leaks. The boards in there were soaking wet.  He poured bleach in there and left it open to dry.  I got a fan on it and the door shut the window open’

I believe that explains that cough I been having.  Horrible cough. Since last week.  My throat tickles.  Sinus problems.  I been to my Dr. 2x last week to make sure wasn’t sick if I get sick I can’t have my surgery .

She assured me was allergies.  Well doggone no wonder.  That fellow that came 4 weeks ago is going to get his butt chewed out.  Plus we have a meeting tomorrow the supv and people in charge will be here.  OH boy is this going to come up.  Big time.

The supv is very angry.  It needn’t have gone this far if he had the sense to see that paint doens’t bubble on it’s own.  It may peel but not bubble. Plus the neighbor next to me had been calling too.

Sure hope this dries up with no mold so I can quit coughing.  I don’t do it all the time  mostly at nite and in the morning.  The bathroom is in my bedroom so no wonder.   I take extra allergy meds nasonex inhaler and cough syrup at nite.

I’d be surprised if mold maybe hasn’t started growing in the walls. But I don’t know about that kind of stuff. Hopefully they fix it CORRECTLY so that no mold has a chance of growing.

Sorry to hear about this. My toilet overflowed and was doing some other weird things. I had the maintenance guy come and all he did was plunge it. I still have the weird problems sometimes where it won’t refill the bowl correctly. Sigh. As long as it doesn’t overflow again i suppose. Seems like you can hardly find a maintenance person that will take the time to actually do their jobs right sometimes.

True.    Maintenance here was real good.   Then Jim broke his arm and is out for a few months.

Doug is the all over supv.  of maintenance.

Anthony who does his job right and finishes it came and did all this work on the walls and pipes.  Oh get this.  We got up yesterday morning.  The sink was backed up.  It never does this.

My neighbor next door called hers was backed up too.  Anthony came again.  Broke 2 snakes and finally the last snake worked got the clog out.

He said that wall is almost dry.  It dried quick.  I moved the fan to another part of the wall and will change it over the next one tonite.

I may stay home tomorrow and get Anthony to replace the parts of the wall that were damp.

He sprayed some more stuff in there to kill mold  and some bleach agian yesterday.   I think he will come tomorrow to patch up that hole.

Mold is one of my biggest allergens. Grasses trees  too.   I am allergic to almost every mold in existance.  Well in florida anyways.

            Sucks.

So how is your apartment doing ?   Toilet still doing weird things.   That can be so nasty when they over flow..

OH and we had our meeting yesterday.  The lady in the housing office was there.  Another poor elderly soul has  problems with maintenance cust svc too.   She has an a/c leak that soaks 1 towel a day.   The girl from maint. office told her she doenst’ have a problem.   Even the office lady said lady was  rude to her too.

Since Jim is out broken arm and they hired 2 new people including the rude phone lady maintenance has gone way downhill.   The lady from the office is going to get something done about.   Hopefully things will improve.

Perhaps you can go over the maintenance guy’s head?

I hope there isn’t mold BT. Nasty for your health.   I’ve heard bleach is not appropriate to treat mold now. I really hope your people know what current treatments are and that they do a good job.

Bleach isn’t good?   How about ammonia?   What would be good to kill mold?  Anyone know?

I am doing my cleaning and such for Monday I don’t think I will be able to for a few days or so.  I mixed lots of bleach n water and sprayed til it soaked in there.

Speaking with neighbors one told me the dr had a ct scan and she had all kinds of bacteria in her lungs.  She was told by dr.  to immediately go out and get an air purifier.

Plus been told by different neighbors to get one.  Our windows are open now so I will get one b4  in december.  In case we close up for the heater.

Gosh what can I use on mold?

I’m still trying to find where I first heard about not using bleach on mold. It was a comment saying that bleach can actually make the spore airborne and contaminate other areas.

There are alot of professional mold removal companies cautioning use of bleach.  Mainly because it appears to kill it but it’s only on the surface. The bleach can actually feed the mold underneath in porous materials.

The Clorox ® Company, OSHA, and the EPA all have determined that bleach should not be used in mold remediation. Bleach is ineffective and unsafe for cleaning up mold or killing mold. It appears to kill the mold, but just the surface mold is affected – the hidden mold underneath the surface is alive and well – now it’s doing even better. The mold says, “Thanks for the food! See you in a few days!” and the surface mold will soon be back.

When the mold grows back to the surface, often there will often be even more of it. Bleach seems to help, but it makes it worse. There are ways to get rid of this unwanted houseguest, but bleach is not one of them http://www.suite101.com/content/usi…es-a115960

                   http://www.americanmoldexperts.com/…bleach.pdf

From what I can tell, boric acid (& borax?) can be used. Though I’m not absolutely sure on that BT.  Take care in whatever is used after bleach has been used. You don’t want to be producing chlorine gas!

If there are others in the building having the problem too, then maintance should be getting it tested and call in professionals for treatment. You shouldn’t have to be treating it yourself.

Here’s a bit on what your health department has on mold: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/environment/com…tokillmold

Sorry to inundate you will all this info BT. People need to be careful as some types of mold are really bad for the health.

By the way, I’ll be taking my own advice on this! I had looked into this a few months ago for my sister who lives in house with a damp problem. I also have some mold probs on some windows. I’m gonna take extra care in handling it now I’ve had this reminder. It’s scary when you read about mold sometimes.

Your city should have a housing authority and you should be able to call and report them. If the housing authority investigates and determines your apartment complex is a health hazard due to mold, it will force your landlord to have it professionally treated. Or you could also contact the EPA. I know this sounds extreme, but it IS a health hazard that your landlord needs to properly treat. I didn’t think bleach could be used on mold either.

So you and all your neighbors should get together and report this to either your city’s housing authority or the EPA.

Yes black mold can kill you.    I am the only one with the smell.   I am the only one with a hole in my wall too.

I am really going to be upset if the guy doesn’t come back monday to patch it up.  It will have been 5 whole days for it to dry.   I did better last nite though.  Slept good didnt’ wake up coughing.

I will be having surgery tomorrow morning.  I have calls to make but will be 7 am when I leave. Hopefully I will be alert after and can make those calls I need to make. If the guy doesn’t come back.

In Florida though I think every house has mold.  Just the extent of how bad.

And this is housing authority I am renting from.   They are shorthanded.
