Hi all! I haven’t posted in a while, but I wanted to come on and reconnect because we just added a second bunny to the family. She is a 2-3 year old spayed Rex. Her name (as of right now, it’s subject to change because we don’t like it, lol) is Sunshine. She was rescued by the Upstate NY chapter of the HRS. Her former owner moved and abandoned her in his empty apartment; the neighbors broke in and cared for, then the rescue was contacted and they scooped her right up. She has been living in foster care since May.

I cannot imagine how ANYONE could abandon an animal, let alone a bunny as sweet as this girl! ALL she wants is to be petted. The second you start stroking her, she sprawls out and soaks up the lovin. I have never touched a Rex before. I can’t believe how soft she is!!!

Our ultimate goal is to bond her with Oliver, our Mini Lop, but he is still recovering from his neutering surgery, so we want to give him more time to rest and let the hormones abate before we introduce them; currently he is living in the bunny room and “Sunshine” is living in a massive xpen in our bedroom. She seems very content and has settled in already.

As far as names go, our top favorites are Dorey, Abby, Maggie, Emma and Libby. What do you think? She’s not much of a Sunshine, lol.

Sorry the pic isn’t that great. I haven’t had time to take any recent ones; this is from the Upstate HRS’s website.

        – Jenn

Thank you everyone! She is very soft. I think we have decided on the name Dorie. I don’t know why, she just seems to look/act like a Dorie to us.

Congratulations on the new addition! Dorie is adorable!

It’s so sad how people can just leave their animals like old garbage when they move, it unfortunetly happends often One rescue I will always remember – We ended up with a rabbit on the verge of death found in a garbage can after the renters moved out. We named him Oscar and he lived many years in a happy healthy loving foster home.

                              Dorie is one lucky bunny!

Here are some more pics of her! She is the sweetest girl; we are having fun getting to know her. Yesterday when she was flopped on the floor, I noticed that her belly hair is still growing back in from when she was spayed. I don’t know how long it’s been since the operation, but how long would it normally take for the hair to fill in completely? She was probably spayed around the summertime, since she was moved into foster care in May.

First, a picture of Oliver sitting in my lap. He has grown so much since this was taken!

                                    Dorie:

Do all does have dewlaps, or just some? Hers cracks me up, lol.

Most have dewlaps, unspayed females can get huge ones … I think it’s like a big chested lady, it attracks the males bunnies LOL
Both your bunnies are adorable, I do love Dories markings on her face they are so neat.
My Female Ani had a bare belly for a loooong time, I wonder if it’s just that place that takes a bit to grow back?

                                        Dorie looks like my Meadow!!!!!!!!!!!

She was probably spayed after hers had already formed. If they’re not spayed by about a year, they tend to not lose them afterwards.

I bet Oliver can’t wait to meet the missus!

I have 2 females, Bun wasn’t spayed till she was after 2 when I got her…I guess you can’t spay them when you show them? I have no idea, but I remember Buns old owner telling me she wasn’t spayed and I was like…oh you spay rabbits??/ *durrrr* Bee was spayed around 5 months and she has a tiny tiny one. Bun has a fairly large one. I remember first posting here when I was a rabbit noob asking what the heck was on buns chin!! I think my post was called “Bun has a double chin!!” Ahhhh…how much I’ve learned!
