Now that Basil has gotten comfortable with me I was thinking about giving him a quick bath to try and wash out the stains on his bum.

From not having a clean place to potty before I got him, I used water and rubbed it some but it didnt really help much do I just have to wait till he grows new hair and sheds out the stained stuff? also he has bald patches on the bottoms of his feet from having wire flooring. I have his cage lined with towels and hay so there is no wire for his feet, will he eventually grow hair back on his heels?

You pretty much just have to wait. You can help speed along the process a bit by regularly grooming him and removing the loose fur, but it typically takes 2-3 months for the stains to shed out.

Sore hocks are difficult to get rid of. Provide him a variety of surfaces and it might help. Many rabbits are missing fur on their feet since they don’t have soft pads like dogs do. As long as they are not open, inflamed, or bleeding, you can just wait and have the vet examine it when he has a check-up.  Also… keeping his nails trimmed will help too.

I would not recommend putting anything on his feet at this moment… it may cause him to lick his feet and then worsen the problem. Bring it up to the vet when you go in for his check-up (he’s only a little bab, right, so you should be taking him in very soon).

By offering a variety of surfaces I mean to have soft blankets, towels, pet beds, carpet patches, rugs…. not just hard flooring. If his condition gets worse, you may even need to consider using Carefresh bedding, either partially or fully.
