So I’ve been working for that coffee shop that sucks the souls out of it’s employees for 2 years now. It works well with my school hours since they are open at night time which is when I can work since school takes up the entire day.

We just got a new assistant store manager. She was a shift and has now been promoted.

For lack of better words…she is terrible. She has never worked in a drive-thru store and talks ungodly slow to customers at the menu and it makes me want to bash my head over and over onto the register. She also completely changes her voice to sound cute and girly and it makes everyone want to throw up.

She would be much easier to get along with if she didn’t constantly stir up the drama pot.

I have the tiniest nose ring you would ever see. It’s the size of a pin head. TINY. No one hardly even knows I have it. The other day I walk by her and she says, “Uhm Lindsey, nose ring?” as I am walking onto the floor. I am like, “Uhmmm what?” …I’ve had it since I was hired there and now SHE has to make some huge deal over it. I tell her that I’ve had it in since day 1 and then she says well okay as long as my store manager is okay with it.

Today she tells me “Uhmm Lindsey, you are sooooOOoo (insert valley girl voice) going to kill me! I talked to M. about your nose ring!

        *RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE*

Long story short, I go to the back room for my break and talk to my store manager and see what’s up. Turns out, like everyone else on the planet, she didn’t know I even had it because she said she doesn’t pay attention to that stuff. She gives me a mom look, and I take it out, because yes piercings are not allowed.   *SIGH*  (plus she is giving me Xmas off so I have to be good now)

2 years I have it in, and now because of HER I get to take it out.

Then about 45min after that, this newly promoted shift that no one likes because he is very arrogant, only 18, and a pervert (he always is touchy feely with the girls and is constantly running to the drive thru window to check out the pretty girls) – comes up to me and my coworker and tells us that we have to start tucking in our shirts. Yes my coworker’s shirt did need to be tucked in, but my polo shirt is too short to tuck in and I was almost going to explode and enrage if I was harassed one more time about how I looked that day.

This new assistant store manager is getting on everyones nerves and just isnt meshing well with us. She wrote up one of my co-workers when she had a family emergency and had to leave. Her husband was pulled over and put in jail by the cops and all her husband got to say on the phone was “I’m going to jail” She couldn’t get anyone to cover the rest of the shift and had to leave to go. Later after finding out that it was simply because of a ticket ….she would have let him sit in jail and think that one over… but seriously how would she be expected to work after getting a call like that? I wouldn’t want to work with her in that state of mind. So the assistant manager told her if she left, she would be written up. So, she left anyways. The store manager had to write her up to back up the ASM, but she told my co-worker “Please don’t get yourself fired”

Today she was LAYING on the floor on her stomach with a broom getting coffee beans out from under the cuboards, yelling at all us, and I quote … “skinny beezies” that we should be doing this, not her.         …..who lays on the floor at work?

She is the one who needs to tuck in her shirt, and pull her hair back, and stop bending over and showing us her barely there underwear if you know what I mean before I implode.

=thanks for listening to me complain=

Don’t think she should be referring to employees as “skinny beezies”. Or that any tasks should be designated based on body type unless it’s heavy lifting.

Do the rules state piercing have to be out or can they be covererd? I’ve seen waitresses just cover them. Granted it can look terrible covered sometimes, but i’d be tempted to leave it in and cover it with a whopping big bandaid. Just to see her face everytime she looked at it. lol.

Ah well, hopefully things will settle down and you can just get on with it all.

Yes I have thought about using a bandaid on my nose just to make a point. There is a store manager that has 3 foot long dreadlocks that look nasty, but I can’t have my pin sized nose ring.

Yep, you should cover the site up so it won’t get infected.

Type “novelty adhesive bandages” in an image search and have fun imagining.

omg… sounds exactly like Stan’s job at Starbucks… that he just quit. The shift manager was SO bad that every single person Stan had worked with from the beginning had quit and he, after only four months, was the most experienced employee there. He was scheduled for 5am one day, 2pm the next day, 11am the day after, and so on and on and on. He was so exhausted and exasperating that he couldn’t stand it anymore.

I hope it gets better, but if it doesn’t, I sure hope you don’t end up murdering anyone.

Yup Lizzie you hit it right on the dot. I started at 11:30am today, 3:00pm tomorrow, 9am Saturday, 5pm Sunday. I never know whats going on from Thursday – Sunday. We just had about 8 people leave over the summer, It’s pretty much an entire new store. Even the customers are complaining that they don’t know anyone or the new people keep messing up their drinks. Today I had to laugh though, this lady who comes in EVERYDAY for her 3 petite mini scones was complaining that everyone was new …I’ve had dozens of conversations with her over the past 2 years …. I just died my hair darker about 3 days ago. After everyone was saying how long they have been there to her, I turned around and said well I’ve been at this store for 2 years, i’m not new. She shook her head and said she had no idea who I was. I just spoke to her 2 days ago about some yogurt. I’ve known her for 2 years lol and my hair color threw her off! Proof that she really doesn’t care about the workers, just give her the scones!!!!

Not to mention after my first incident with writing a formal complaint about a shift manager, I am now and forever scared to do something like that again. My old ASM, who is now fired for forging meal break violations. (she would have us sign the time log like we really didn’t work over 5 hours without a meal break) …she promised me the formal complain I was making was confidential and that the girl wouldn’t know I wrote it. Well guess what, she left it out, the shift read it, and then confronted me about it. I still had to work with her for another 6 months until she was eventially fired, and then then ASM was fired shortly after. The ASM never said sorry to me. It was very not a pleasant work place, and it still isn’t.

Oh yeah… this woman has had complaints up the wazoo, but (what a shocker!) she’s friends with the district manager! That comes in pretty handy when everyone hates you and you’re running the store into the ground.

Please don’t murder anyone, Lintini… I like you!

Nah I don’t wanna go to jail….might get written up for that…. LOL

But who would take care of my bunnies if I had to go to jail for becoming an axe murderer? See I can’t kill anyone!

                                  <3

My sneakers for work have pink colored soles. I wonder when I will be asked to color them in with a sharpie. The time is near…I can smell it.

Okay, I’m actually going to bed at a decent hour tonight. 2:26 am is decent, right?

Probably, she’s another one people are having issues with. There are very large age differences…we have a 16 year old working with us and we also have have several women who are grandmothers … I personally like her and love working with the mature adults. There is just so much drama boiling from so many new people in such a short period of time and people working differently – it’s just really rough. I feel like I work in a twilight zone.

                                                ROFL.

I got to work a nice and long, stressful, dreadful, terrible, and frustrating 8 hours with my new ASM today. *pulls hair out* Too much to complain about today. Too tired.

The cherry on top of the day though: I set up direct deposit at work 2 weeks ago; we were paid today, or at least everyone but me. I got to work and had a pay stub, it said it was deposited into my account. I check my account…..no new money! YYYYYYYYAY!!!!!!! And of course payroll is only open weekdays till 5pm and I got off work at 11pm.

I am so stressed out when I called my bank tonight (thank goodness they have people to talk to even at 1am) I started crying!! I said I have to work with this woman who makes my life and living nightmare, and then to not even get paid for it has ruined my night ….*sobs* That poor guy had to put up with me for a bit, oh well he was very nice and polite haha. I feel better now, he said hopefully it will clear at 8am when their system resets. So I’ve been upset all night for no reason. *stresssss* I feel only a tad bit embarrassed.

omgosh lintini that sucks. i worked in a coffee shop from the age of 14 to when i graduated college. i quit before i found my first career-related fulltime job because the new owner was a disgusting pig who liked to yell and berate the employees infront of customers. he did that to me once – i was reduced to tears from feelng so humiliated – and after i finished the shift i wrote a letter of resignation and left him hanging to cover my scheduled shifts. funny – he left me a voice mail that day both asking me to come back to work and accusing me of stealing a case of coffee. what an idiot. i have access to the float but i’m going to take a case of coffee. right. *rolls eyes*

sadly right now my working conditions include taking verbal harrassment from my boss and the woman who broke up his marriage (she started as admin and is now vp… promotion for obvious reasons). they are crazy bullies. just last friday she realized at 3:30 that she needed a file to be transferred so it could be burned to dvd for her presentation the next day. first she told me i would have to stay late until it was done. i told her i had plans and couldnt (screw her – pardon my crudeness). then we found out the file size and realized it would take 10 hours to upload and she told me i had to come in on saturday to do it. again i told her politely no. she looked at me through narrowed eyes, pointed her finger for emphasis and said “i realize peope have lives outside of this office but you WILL do this” and then she turned and marched away. i would not have done it but turns out none of our workstations had the software needed anyways. THEN it became my job to find her some one who could do this between 4:30 on a friday and noon the next day. of course no one would do it for less than $250 / hour last minute. when i told her the cost she said “tell them where they shove their f-ing $250 per hour.” she’s a real piece of work.

aaaaanyways… big surprise… i’m looking for a new job. i’m sure you’re busy with studies AND a job but it may just make you feel a little empowered to scan local job opportunities. and if there aren’t many suitable jobs it may be easier to put up with all the poo! stupid jobs.

oh and i second (or third?) the motion for fancy bandaids. i have really cute barbie ones

                                                        My job sucks as well.

The manager is BARLEY there (when he is, he brings items to the store and I am always off on those days) and we are really short on staff. 5 people. We used to have 8. He won’t hire anyone.

Seasonal hours are coming up. There is no way in hell I am working from 9 am til 11 pm on a Sunday!

Basically, the person ‘in charge’ of the store is a person that is passive aggressive and goes to the boss first with a problem, instead of going to the person that did something wrong, etc.

                                                        It is JUST retail! RELAX!

I’m going to change the title of the thread to “Work Rants” so it’s not just for me I’m curious to see if I could get a job at this Aquarium Store where I always go, my grandma used to sell them peacock eels that she bred 30 years ago. Moon still remembers her too I don’t know tho, it’s right next to a bar and I wouldn’t want to work there alone. I do want to work at a petstore again though, It felt rewarding before when I did….minus when my coworker drained my saltwater tanks and killed my fish. So much for being the aquarium specialist.
