this morning when I took Peepers to his play area, he jumped down in his exitment to get there, it was only about a foot drop but he is pretty tiny himself! anyway after he hit the ground he kept shaking his front left paw, and he is favering it, when I took a look, its looks like one of his toes might be broken? it feel loose, but his feet are so small its hard to tell exactly what 1 single toe is doing!  is there anything I can really do about it? he and Jen are going to the vet first thing saterday morning anyway, but should I be doing anything in the meantime?

Het him to an area where he cannot do jumps until you know what is going on. If it is broken, he should not put any stress on it. Can you get him in to see the vet sooner?

I’m not sure how a 1 foot drop could have done it, my medium-sized rabbit back in his earlier years easily took 4-5 foot jumps down with ease

Peepers is under 1lb and the size of a TP tube lol, he jumped down and landed akwardly on his front feet and his face. didnt look far rto me, and he’s a rabbit..they hop lol I figer he was fine, but he kept shaking that paw and licking at it, and when I watched him move he was favouring it, he puts a tiny bit of weigt on it, but hardly any(limping), when I picked him up and examined his paw, it looks like has one toe is sticking straight up and loose, I can just kinda knock it around, but his feet are so tiny I cant quite tell if its just jis nail, or his whole toe or what.

He could have just broken the nail at the base, but it’s not impossible for him to have landed wrong and broken a toe, or a sprained foot. Vivian did sprain her back foot last year. The vet just said to try and limit her movement, gave pain meds for a couple of days, and she was completely fine after that.

It will be good to have the vet check it Peerps out. Let us know what the she/he says on Saturday. How’s Peepers doing today?

Well at least you caught it!

Lolli broke her one of her toes on her back foot. I think she caught the nail on the carpet. that’s the only thing i can figure out. I didn’t even know she did it until I picked her up one day to check her over and found this toe had healed so the nail pointed sideways. I still feel terrible that i didn’t know anything about it, but that’s the way rabbits are.

Peepers is still running around, doing binkies and such, but is is still slightly favouring that paw, and when he is running around he holds that paw up, not putting as much weight on it. the appointment is in an hour anyhow, so I will just have her take a look .

have you looked at his other paw to see if it has the same “loose” toe? I also had thought Skittles had a broken toe because of a nail that pointed up, and it seemed to be loose to me. When I brought her to the vet, we noticed that it was on both of her back feet, and most likely a hereditary thing. If it was truely broken, he wouldn’t even let you touch it I’m sure. Much less move it around to see if it was wiggley
Of course, its still very possible Peepers has sprained his front paw if he is favoring it. I just wanted to share my experience with the toe issue. If it were me, I would just hold him and carry him everywhere he needs to go for a week LOL….just to make sure he gets better. (ok ok ok….I’m only kidding)

vet said its a broken tendon, all I can do is keep the nail trimmed and it will likley always stick up like that.

If he is doing binkies, he must not be too horribly in pain, but just wondering if the vet offered a couple of days of pain meds. Which toe is it exactly?

nope, no pain meds since its not bothering him much. its one of the middle toes on his front left paw.

Hopefully the other toes each side might help to brace it a bit, like a splint. I hope it heals up good!
