My bunny doesn’t like timothy hay, i always give him plenty of both Timothy hay and alfalfa hay and he only eats the alfalfa and leaves the timothy hay everyday. Hes still young under 6 months..is it ok for him to not eat the timothy hay??

If he is still young it is fine. But at some point you will have to transition him to the timothy, as alfalfa is too rich for adult tummies.

You can also try Coastal Bermuda, Peanut loves that stuff.

Orchard is the new favorite here!

I would still continue to offer timothy (or another grass hay like orchard) along with the alfalfa. As he nears 6 months, you will start to decrease the amount of alfalfa he gets, and transition him from alfalfa pellets to timothy pellets. Make sure the grass hay is a high quality hay. Petstore hays tend to be very dusty and flaky and they may not entice a rabbit to eat them.

Yes, try to get hay from an ag store- very fresh stuff.

You can find orchard in the binkybunny store. Also, if you know of a petsmart near you, they carry it.

I’m glad you made this thread. Baxter doesn’t like his timmy hay too much either. Good suggestions though…I will have to try some

Bumblebunny was not a great hay eater for a long time while we were using different store bought hays. Finally we started experimenting with different hays from the BB store. After several months bunny settled on a mixture of Wheat, oat and orchard. Now he will leave pellets and greens if we bring him a fresh basket of hay. I think every bunny has his own preferences and it takes time to figure out what they like the best.

That’s been something that has baffled me. Every time I see someones bunny habitat it seems they all have a basket or box full of hay. I wanted to do that for Baxter but it would just be a waste as he does not eat it very fast. He does eat it but he prefers pellets and greens.

I just keep Monkey’s and Smudge’s hay int heir litter boxes. Works better for them. Moose has an extra basket for his treat hay.

Nibbles, if he doesn’t liek the hay and will not eat it in order to fill up on pellets and greens, you may have to cut down on those. Hay needs to be the largest part of his diet.

                                    How old is Baxter?

I had no problems with Chacha consuming hay, but when bunnies realize that the pellet amount decreases (slowly is best), they will eat more hay, which is better for them than pellets.
