I have been invaded by red ants ..sigh.In the last 2 days i have been dealing with red ants and I am worried about my buns and other animals what do you guys use to kill the pests that wont harm to furry ones?.I am very worried about spraying the windows and corners on the floor with regular ant poison We all know buns favorite spot is on the floor and digging in corners.Plus I have dogs and a cat i dont want to harm them of course.I sprinkled 7 dust around outside on piles and all the way around my home but what about the indoor invaders? If anyone has any products or home remadeys that work please share I would be forever greatful My bigest fear is they will attack the buns while in their pens and they can not escape ,ants or so evil !

The ONLY ant repellant I’ve used that works is called Ecosmart Ant & Roach Killer, I bought it at Dominick’s (major grocery chain in Chicago) so I imagine it’s available other places in the US as well. The ingredients are Rosemary oil, cinnamon oil, wintergreen oil, mineral oil, oleic acid, canola oil, carbon dioxide, vanillin, and lecithin. I advise EVERYONE to use this ant repellant – I’ve been plagued by ants in the past and this is the only thing I’ve ever used that’s worked, and luckily is non-toxic (it works better than the poisonous ones I used in the past too.) The only bad thing is that it has quite a strong smell (although mostly herbal/cinnamon) which lingers the whole time you use it, you basically have to spray and wipe it everywhere you see ant trails until they give up (about 5 days).

I use Ortho Ecosense indoor insect killer spray. It’s oil based and kills insects on contact. It’s active ingredient is soybean oil. It’s safe to use around pets but I still would be careful when using around your pets. I don’t know how this works for ants. The label lists ants, but I have only used it on flies and spiders. I like this stuff cause once the insect gets hit with the stuff, it literally dies instantly. You can find more info on it and other Ecosense products at ortho.com.

Hey bunbuns1 do you have the bottle there, if so can you list all the ingredients? I just looked on the website and couldn’t find any info except that the main ingredient was soybean oil. Does it have a strong smell, or not? I’m assuming the one I mentioned was pet-safe (Ecosmart) but I was using that before I got the bunny, and now have no ant problem. I think the common action of all pet-safe insect killers is that they use really strong-smelling essential oils, which destroy ant trails. Ecosmart claims to also be a roach killer, which I highly doubt. But if you scoured surfaces with this stuff, no animal (including insects) would want to hang out there – very strong scents!

I use ant traps. A few weeks ago we got ants (I still have no idea how) and really didn’t want to spray because of the rabbits. A few well placed ant traps, along with cleaning very well in all of the areas they were, helped a lot.

The ingredients for the Ortho Ecosense is soybean oil (which is the active ingredient), water, polyglyceryl oleate, lauric acid, sodium caprylate, sodium benzoate.

I have no clue what those ingredients are, but I still am careful about not spraying this around Lolli. I really like it cause there’s no smell and it’s not an aerosol which aggravates my asthma. And being a spray, there’s no toxic fumes. And like I said, it kills on contact. I always hated using raid on bugs cause they would always writhe around and stuff before dying. This you spray them with this and BAM! they’re dead.  *The only negative is that it leaves an oily residue behind but it easily cleans up.  But I have not sprayed around fabric so I don’t know how it would affect it.

At my old apartment, I had a back door in the kitchen and I got ants. I got those ant traps and put them in the kitchen and few in strategic places in the living room since they migrated and Eddie never messed with them. Didn’t even act like he knew they were there. Of course I watched him like a freaking hawk and would move them out of his reach all the time. lol

Yeah, I was lucky that my bunnies don’t go in the areas where I placed the traps (I have an open floor plan, so they’re close enough to spraying pesticide would be bad, but putting ant traps in the bathroom and pantry were totally out of their normal territory). The traps seem pretty well closed off too, so unless your bunny is super curious I don’t think they’d be a problem.

I don’t think they always kill them on contact… you still have to squish them not fun. However if you spray and wipe it everywhere you find the ants, especially where they’re entering your house (windowframe or door, etc.) eventually the ants just stop coming in. I seriously sprayed that stuff a couple times a day for almost a week… but eventually the ants were gone for good and no toxic chemicals necessary!

To kill ant inside my house I used insect killer spray. IT is PET safe, you can spray around your dog. I used to spray around inside my house. It works well on ants, very effective and also worked against other household insects like cockroaches, spiders, flying insects. It is pet safe that’s why I brought it online from pet safe ant killer. [edited y Moderator to remove link]
