Sorry, anothe question for you guys.  Since the vet said it would be best for Hugo to stay on a diet of only hay and pellets what can I do for treats?  She said he should not have fresh greens and fruit.  Does that mean any treats I get should not have these ingredients either?  I have seen a few things from American Pet Diner that don’t have these like the Timbo Smaks and the Mountain Grass Smacks.  Thanks for your thoughts.

Mine enjoy hte timothy treats, hay blocks, stuff that they don’t get every day. Could use those healthy things as snacks

Does the vet mean temporarily until he’s better or long term for the no veggie diet?

I would imagine that at least in the case of dried treats with just veggies in them it should be okay. Not sure about dried fruit… You could also buy things like willow twigs or edible pot pourri mixes made for bunnies. He probably can eat those since they’re dried and kind of like hay.

Thanks. Yes the vet meant for good so he won’t have tummy problems.

I also saw the apple sticks. Just thought I’d see if anyone else had suggestions. Maybe something that hasn’t crossed my mind yet.

Are alfalfa cubes ok to give as treats?

Sorry, one more. I read on my local HRS website that rabbits can have a small dish or herbal tea as a treat. Has anyone done that?

Just hand feed pellets! I use pellets almost exclusively for treats and my buns don’t seem to know the difference. lol As long as it’s hand fed and I give it to them in the living room, not in their cage, it’s a treat to them. They jump on the couch and climb all over me just to get some pellets!

Awesome idea! I love it. =) Hugo is all about his pellets. I like to give him something small after I have picked him up and tortured him. (grooming, cleaning and checking. lol)

Another thing you could try is a different kind of hay as a treat. Mine get the nice BB oat hay as a treat now and then

The only hay I can get him to eat is Orchard. He is very picky about his hay.

Zeus likes alfalfa hay and cubes as a treat, but I’m not sure if it’d be ok for a sensitive-stomached bun.  The richness of alfalfa could pose a problem.

He was on an alfalfa pellet when I got him and had no trouble with that. I didn’t even think about that causing a problem. Thanks for the heads up.
