        *Happy Dance*

I’ve not been on a REAL vacation in 5 years, and back then I did not have rabbits so finding a sitter for the critters wasn’t too bad.
I had a regular rabbit sitter, who’d come to my house everyday and feed and check everyone over, but she wasn’t able to this time around, I had found a girl who her and her boyfriend would stay at my house but we didn’t feel comfortable b/c I don’t really know her very well.
So… we have Mom-in-Law coming to stay the week at our place. She used to take our Diabetic doggy all the time, but I am very sure she has no rabbit experiance, but happy to say she has common sense. She’s coming over early so that I can go over EVERYTHING with her myself.

I wish i was more ‘excited’ about going, but I’m stressed b/c of the animals, a story I am sure many are familour with.
I have re-made 4 pages of information about the animals. One is a layout of the animal room, showing who lives where, where food and medical supplies are kept and such. I have had an issue once where a lady was feeding my rabbits CHICKEN FEED b/c it looked the same and was in a container in the room (though not where the rabbit food was, so i’m still confused about that one… she no longer sits for me).
Another page with each rabbits picture, who they are bonded with and a little information about them (I bite, I can’t eat banana, I pee everywhere, i sneeze … etc lol), then the emergency contacts page, my Vet’s name and # first, then the emergency vet hospital. Then I have rabbits contacts (3 Rabbit savvy ppl) and then a contact for the other critters. This page also say where to find the veggie safe food list (on my fridge), and what to do if a critter dies (I have a few oldies). Then The names of the small animals (Degus, Gerbil, Hammy) and if they are old and if any have health issues.
The last page is just some facts about each of the species, including what is an emergency and needs to been seen by a vet and then just some fun info.

So, now I am wondering… there are some things a rabbit owner probably takes for granted that ‘everyone knows about bunnies’. What are they? What is something i may have missed that would be very important to have on my list that “I” know it but a regular non rabbit person may not?

Mom-in-Law will also be able to get ahold of us, as I’ll have my phone with me.
So… where am I going? Well first I am cruising down to California, my cousins is getting married on the boat. Then Hubby & I are going to DISNEY LAND! .. hehehe We’ve never been, though I’ve been to Disney World many years ago.  I havn’t really gotten excited about it until today LOL… but it’s nice to think a week off work in hopefully some sunshine

Sounds like fun! I haven’t gone on vacation in ages either because of the same problem.

It’s so hard for me though to know what they wouldn’t know because I thought it wasn’t so hard to learn. I guess just that if they stop eating or pooping, off to the vet they go. My mom did it for a week for me when I had to take a business trip and she did great. I felt bad though because I have 2 stories and the rabbits are upstairs and my mom has a hard time getting up and down stairs which is why I would never ask her to do it unless I had too.

SO FUN ANDI SOUNDS LIKE FUN!!

I’m going on Vacation too next month to Oregon.

Last time I went, in March, I left my dad a detailed list of things to feed, do, etc. I am going ot make sure to give him the information if Chacha stops eating, pooping (vet information).

Maybe you’ve thought of this and just didn’t include it – but…..if you haven’t, maybe include somewhere what will happen if they are put together if they are not bonded – ie fighting, etc. So she knows what will happen. Cause many people I know had NO CLUE that rabbits are vicious fighters and were quite surprised.

I am so lucky that I have a friend who has a rabbit and who is willing to take care of mine when I go on vacation. And yes, I realize just how lucky I am cause if she wasn’t around, I have no clue. Probably one of my parents or another friend. And yes they’d get a long list too.

And I always freak out before I leave on vacation, worrying about them. And for the first couple of days while I’m gone, I’m constantly texting my friend to make sure they are ok. To the point where she tells me to shut up about it. LOL

Bunbun1, I know how you feel! I called my dad everyday to see if Chacha was doing fine! She was. In fact, he did a good job with changing her litter box, feeding her, etc. But he gave her too many treats

                    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  ! ! ! ! ! !

I feel so sick, I am so mad, I want to just scream my head off and I am still at work…..
Apparently my Mother-in-Law has dediced she is not going to House/Pet Sit for us now… yes now as in just this afternoon, 5 days before we LEAVE! On top of that she will also not be picking us up from the airport…..

I’m going to cry, I am so frustrated with people.. gawd I hate his family!

I may be able to find people to stop by and feed the bunnies, but none are rabbit experianced, so them just showing up and feeding/watering them would be it, not being able to watch and make sure everyones ok.  I’ll be stressed the whole trip.

I’ve just sent an email to my old Pet Sitter begging her for help. A girl from work said she could help and it’s wonderful for her to offer, it really is but she’s only just got her first cat she knows NOTHING about animals.

Why does this happen everytime I try and go away? Just because I own animals it seems I am not allowed to have a vacation…
I am going to call my Dad tonight and see if he can pick us up from the airport now, and then continue to beg local friends to help me with the animals. Thanks goodness Whizz isn’t still alive, I’d probably end up having to stay home since no one would take care of a blind diabetic dog agressive dog

                        BUM! Big BUM!!

That’s just a big pain 5 days out from leaving. Maybe MIL found the thought of it all too overwhelming?

I hope you can get it all sorted soon and have a stress-free holiday. Fingers crossed for you!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I have things worked out mostly.
I have 3 friends coming in each day to feed and water everyone, not ideal but it will work. My most bunny savvy friend is driving in from the city to stay at my house for the weekend we get back. So if anything is up, she will know what to do.

This all happened yesterday, when i was getting some tests at the hospital. Good timing LOL
As for the MIL… she is suffering from depression. We offered her this home away from home to get away from her soon to be ex-husband who is an abusive alcoholic (She’s living with him still). I’ve been trying to help this woman for a year now, getting her FREE counselling services and such but I’m done. She has never tried to help herself once, or taken advantage of the help we have offered time and time again. I know all about depression, I suffer – have my entire life. So I feel for her I do, but you cannot help someone not willing to help themselves, and i will not allow someone like that to take me down with them. I have my own mental health to keep in check.
Seriously the excuses she was coming up with were pathetic. I’m a straight forward person, don’t want to do it, tell me straight up.

I also had to find us a ride back to our car from the airport when we get back, as she offered to do that too. When I had first asked my own Mother, she told me to take public transportation…. that would mean 2+ hours on a bus and such with all our luggage after a plane ride. From where our car is parked we’d still have a 1.5 hour drive home. Sounds like fun huh?
Last night i called my Dad begging him, he complained about the traffic at the airport … while my Friends who live so far away, some with no money, other with small children have offered to pick us up. Hence why we can pick our friends, not family
I have to discuss it with the hubby, as we had decided last night we would just drive to the cruise boat ourselves (we were going on a rented bus with the entire family, leaving the car at MIL’s place) and then when we get back pay for a taxi to the cruise boat place to pick up my car. Leaving my car in the city for a whole week kinda scares me. So we’ll see, this plan was so we would not incconveniance anyone anymore…

I’ve decide when my Mother moves again, I’ll let her know public transportation can be of help, cuz I sure as heck won’t be. :p

                          End of rant … LOL
On a good note, I had a nice ride last night, and I am going to go again today. 4 more days and I will be on a boat, 7 more and I will be in DISNEYLAND!

I’m glad everything worked out so you can still go on your trip! I just got back from a 4 day vacation and my bf stayed home with the buns. Even so, I was really worried about them, so scared they get sick when I’m away! When I got back Ricky told me Olivia had some gas (she wouldn’t eat all of a sudden, I assume gas) but he gave her a few doses of simethicone and she was fine. phew.

I hope you have lots of fun in Disney Land! Make sure to buy something “Thumper”!!!

                              We’re baaaaaaaaaaaack … LOL

Had a great Cruise, cousins wedding was wonderful, Disneyland & Universal Studios was awesome! But after all that I am so glad to be home. The crouds, the noise, the rude people LOL… yup done with all that.
Came through my door last night to say Hi to all my fur babies, I missed them so much. It was great to see them all healthy and happy
I did have a scare though, after saying hello to everyone downstairs, I walked up stairs and called to Pitters “PItters I’m home!” as usual he didn’t come running (he is a rabbit, not a dog after all). As i walk towards his favorite bed and find him laying on his side, eyes open and head stretched up and towards his back I FREAKED OUT! I call for my Hubby, he runs up the stairs hearing the panic in my voice, still calling to Pitters i lean down to him, and touch him, he’s breathing very lightly, he’s not very warm feeling. Running through my mind is how fast can i get to the emergency clinic! I tell the hubby to grab some treats, and i’m petting Pitters gently, and telling him to wake up…. i thought he had had a stroke.
Pitters comes to, looks at me sleepily, get’s up, is offered a treat and eats it greedily… then begs for more.
Talk about heart attack…. he’s totally fine, been very active and happy, loving that we’re home and fussing over him again.

I think I’ve got a gray hair now from that, geezus bunny, don’t sleep like that!!!

Now, remember this feeling so you don’t let too many years pass before your next vacation.
