So I am planning on converting my closet into MArleys new cage so she canhave soem more room. So ive been searching for a new litter box because the one she uses really is too small for her, and she seems to always pee over the edge. So i found a cornner cat box that had taller sides and ordered it. well…… it is way way way to big for her!!! Its crazy big so im planning on returning it and continueing mmy search.

Do any of you have a good idea for one? I want one that has tall sides so she cant pee over them but i dont want it to be super scarey for her!

And another thing! Ive been watching her closely over the last week and realized she isnt eating any hay. She eats all her other food except hay. Ive always bought her oxbow western timothy hay. I went out ad bought some orchard grass to hopefully intice her to eat it. Im mixed sthe two together but she still hasnt ate any, and its been almost 24 hours since she hasnt. Im not really having much problem with her eating her veggies or pellets though. Does anyone have any other way that i could get her to eat it, or even know why she wont eat it?

I use a cat litter box, I think it is the Large size. It works perfectly well for me. I’ve only seen my bunny pee over it once. Monkeybun and I use the same type – I can’t find a photo of it right now.. Hmph. Rabbits are fine with jumping in and out of litter boxes. I really don’t recommend the small corner ones that Petstores sell for rabbits. It is simply too small for bunnies.

I’m not so sure with the hay Do you put the hay in her litter box as well?

To get her to eat the hay, cut down on everythign else. And pile it in her litterbox

I don’t know how big your rabbit is (mine is 4 months and 2 pounds), but for mine I use a rabbit litter box that has a high back and high sides, but tapers down in the front to provide access easily. It’s pretty large (12 inches by 14 inches) but I might have to upgrade him maybe when he’s full grown. He doesn’t spend that much time in there so it might not be an issue. I got it at petco and it looks like this:

There’s also an option that has high sides all around but i liked the more open look. Not sure if they carry this one at petco/petsmart. It’s also 14 by 12 inches.

If you needed something bigger you could buy a square one for cats with high sides, and then cut a lower entryway into it. I’m guessing you could melt the plastic slightly around the edges of the new entryway to prevent it from being too sharp for your rabbit.

ya i have a cat one that i bought but it doesnt go deep enough down to where i think marley would be ok with jumping into.

Funy story! So at work today i was researching bunny litterboxes and actually came upon the ones that you guys suggested! I think we have decided to buy the purple one! And eithe sell the brand new cat one on creaigslist, its a 30 dollar cat box so hopefully someone will want it!

Marley is almost 9 months old and weighs just a little over 5 pounds and is a dutch. I dont know what exactly they are suposed to weigh but she looks healthy to me! maybe a tad bit chubby and i know hse eats too many pellets!!

So when i went to work today i didnt give my boyfriend any instructions on what to feed marley like i usually do. I said that if she was hungry she was more than welcome to eat her hay untill latter when i got home around 1030. Well…. when i came home she had ate all the hay that was in her cage and licked her pellet bowl clean!

My guess is that she isnt the biggest fan of her hay and would rather wait till i give her pellets and greens, but she just had to go over 5 hours with nothing but hay, so she gave in and ate it!!!! Ive decided ill just slightly cut down her pellets and hope that shell eat her hay again! She was so so happy to see me cause she wanted her pellets so bad that she didnt even care that i was pulling off a bunch of fur from her butt!!!!!

So she can’t hop into the box? How high are the sides?

                                                       -20 inches-

I found the litter box shown at a bunny rescue website store, I am not sure which one. It is 20 inches across the front which is a great size for any smaller bunny and mine has never had any accidents over a side. I have not seen it at any Petsmart or Petco. They seem to sell only a much smaller size that is the same shape.

June was not a big hay eater either, but when he was neutered he also had his molars floated. That and seeing two babies eat hay like it’s going out of style has created another hay eating monster.

Those ones are EXTREMELY small I have seen those at the pet store and I think your dutch would have a hard time fitting in that box.

Have you looked in the dog section? They may have bigger litter boxes.. saw this suggestion in another thread.

Hugo was the same way about his hay. Since I switched him over to orchard grass and lowered his pellets he is eating a lot more now. He also likes eating it off the floor. He doesn’t really like spending time in his litter box. Some times he chases me around the house begging for food and then goes and sulks while he eats his hay. As to say “fine, if you won’t give me the good stuff I’ll eat this”.
