I moved a little while ago and we have a dog now. She’s really nice, but she’s huge and she used to just sit there and cry in front of his cage, she doesn’t anymore. But I feel so so so so bad because my work is now 35 minutes away and I get home around 7 and I just never have time to play with Peter He barely ever gets to come out of his cage and play and I feel so horrible and I failed as a bunny parent! I don’t know what to do! I don’t want him to get tossed around from house to house, should I give him back to his owner or try to find a friend of mine that can take care of him? My friends love him, but they all have dogs or cats, but I know a few people who are very good with animals and can get him a good home, but I just don’t want the same thing to happen to him again. I FEEL SO BAD  I’ve been flipping out about this for a week now, I love him so much. I know it may not sound like I do beacuse I say I never have time, but I literally don’t. Monday, Wendesdays and Fridays my brother has soccer practice and I’m the assistant coach so I have to be there and that gets done around 8. Tuesdays and Thursdays I have other things going on and I just feel so bad becasue I”m never home adn I”m always busy  WHAT SHOULD I DO???

Well, this won’t always be the case that you will always be this busy. I think we all have periods where we get more busy but that’s no reason to have to give up out beloved pets. I say just stick it out for now and realize in the future it won’t always be this way.

Many rabbits just doze through most of the day, with some snack breaks and a check-up round in their habitat… so they are very well-suited to a working schedule. I seem to spend the most time with my rabbits after the day is up, when even my two dogs have finally fallen asleep. In the morning I feed the rabbits of course but during the day, on weekdays at least, my rabbits just loaf around on their own.
Why don’t you enrich Peter’s habitat a little, and make him a pen with larger space to use?
Is the dog gentle towards Peter?

Yeah, she just ignores him now.

well, that’s great, so you can spend time with both together.

You should keep your bunny since you love him so much! I wondered about this as well since I’m not working full-time right now and have a lot of time to supervise the bunny’s playtime out of his cage. But other times in the past I’ve worked 60 hour weeks, and sometimes will be out of the house for 14 hours at a time. Today was actually the first day I left him alone for a solid 13 hours. I thought he’d go ballistic when I let him out since it had been so long, but he acted normal. I don’t even think he noticed.

As long as the rabbit cage is sufficiently large and he has lots of stuff to do in there he should be fine. Mine is still getting lots of outside time (only about 20 minutes in the morning), but now that I’m home at night I can have him out for at least 3 more hours before I go to sleep. And that’s just for the long days, on regular days it doesn’t have to be that limited. If the bunny has one of those tri-level cages and can run around in it, being cooped up all day isn’t the worst thing.

You may be busy now, but that won’t last forever. If he doesn’t have alot of room, maybe you could expand his area a bit, either upwards with a larger cage with more levels, or outwards with an xpen so he has more room to play on his own. As long as he sees you now and then, he should be fine. And when things calm down, you’ll be glad you didn’t give him up, trust me

Even getting home at 7 or 8pm, still leaves a couple prime hours of bunny playtime. I wouldn’t give up. What kind of cage or condo do you have? Can you get an xpen to attach when you’re not home so he can have a little more exercise space?
