And last night I had to take Frankie to the emergency vet.

He likes to burrow between the side of his cage and our spare bed and we figured that was fine, because we’d kitted it out with old carpet for him to dig at and chew on and he can’t get behind the bed unless he’s being really adventurous and we’re usually watching him anyway…

Last night I was just walking into the room and I saw his feet go *zoom* and I hear a large *thwack* and when I checked to see if he was okay, he wasn’t moving. So I gently prodded him a little bit, but still no moving. At this point I panicked and phoned the emergency vet and he said I should bring him in.

By the time I’d phoned my husband and got my bag together and the carry case he’d regained consciousness and was hopping round the room but I scooped him up and took him anyway, just to make sure he’d not broken anything.

Long story short, he’s fine, but he gave himself concussion and he’s limping a bit. The vet gave him an anti-inflammatory and some painkillers and we’re keeping an eye on him today. After all we’ve been through this week with wondering if we should keep them both and getting used to having them around, the idea of losing one was enough to have me almost in hysterics.

Annoyingly, I haven’t got round to insuring our bunnies yet so it cost me a small fortune in vet bills. But I guess we signed up for that and we (hubby and I) are just relieved that he’s okay!

Oh no! I’m so glad Frankie is okay. How scary – he must have really been zooming. I would keep him confined for awhile to let his leg heal.

The poor guy…and you. I know all about emergency vet bills! Glad he’s okay though, little bunny bones are so fragile.

Oh my! The poor bunny! At least he’s gonna be okay!

              (((healing vibes for Frankie!)))

Regarding the insurance, the bunny needs to be in your possession for a certain length of time… (I think 2-3 months?) before the company will insure them. So it wouldn’t have mattered anyways.

Bwah. We had to give him his meds this evening – my husband held him down while I tried to find the gap down the back of his teeth to fit the little syringe in. He was not happy being handled at all. The vet made it look so easy!

He is fine now though, digging up our carpet as he does. *rolls eyes*

I bet you’ve never been so happy to have your carpet destroyed! Seriously, I’m really pleased to hear he’s ok.

What me and my hubby do for the buns when they need meds, is I hold them in my arms, their head up near mine, their tummy against my chest so they are upright. Then I take the hand not holding their bottom, and use it to brace them against me while lifting their lips to allow for my hubby to get the meds in easier. It’s easier than holding them down against the ground where they can try and get away. I recommend a towel on the shoulder though, as sometimes medicine can leak out of little mouths
