Look at them! They are such funny looking creatures. Were they making a honking type noise - was that them that I heard? We keep armadillo as livestock in Texas. |

That's way cute! I wish he were yours. Then you would make him your avatar. The difference between the US and Canada is like the difference between a moose and an armadillo. |

I just wanted to add, Sarita, that in Canada, we just call it 'Beer'. Only when we're very drunk do we pronounce it "BBeer" |

we also keep, white - tailed deer for pettting zoo, black bears as scrap yard dog's, and moose antlers as a memoir of our vacation at my grandpa's
jk. lol
my grandpa's house backs ontop a forest and he used to feed the deer untill the wolves would come up and snatch them after they finished eating.. anyways, these deer were frienly and i have pictures from when i was 3 months old untill about 2 years ago going out every day during the winter and feeding the deer. they'd come up to us and eat out of the buckets we were holding. (we would pour the feed on the snow but it was always fun to have them eat out of our buckets.) some of them we could even pet. when i was about 5 there was a baby deer that i named princess and princess loved us. when i was 7 me and my cousins used to sit on her. and theses were wild deer.
all the junk yards around my grandpa's house have bears. these bears live there. wild beaars but their tame enough that they let people come and dump whatever needs dumped but they act like guard dogs they arn't pets.
and every spring and fall when we go into the forest we go searching for antlers from deer and moose |

I love love LOVE Moose!!! And I have always wanted to see an armadillo in the wild - only seen pix and in a zoo. When I lived in the Berkshires we had a bear cub stuck up a tree every spring. The deer roamed in families along with wild turkeys. (they're dumb) Moved to FL and now we have geckos and lizards everywhere. Many birds, turtles and alligators in the nature preserves where they have walkways. In our backyards here most people keep grandparents. Don't know about Canada, but the proper Boston way to pronounce a fine ale is Beeah. I will have one on my regular day off, Monday, then take the holiday off on Thursday which is the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashonah. |

I am actually a bit jealous of our Canadian members. I love Canada. Haven't been there for a long visit for awhile (crossed it in 1976 when I was 13 with my dad, went up the AlCan with my 6-month old daughter, my 2 1/2 year old son and my leadfoot husband in a Buick station wagon in 92, but that's the last time we were there and didn't get to see anything fun). Alberta looks like the Province I'd want to be in, if I could move. But with so many departed four-footed friends in the backyard, I can't see leaving this place. (Not to mention the money.) You guys have a cool national anthem. I love the flag too...I keep thinking of the old beanie baby bears named "Maple" that had the red leaf stamped on their chests. ^_^ Me? Meh. My b-day's tomorrow (yuck...getting too close to 50) and my son will spend some time with me and then go back to college and probably take most of my ready cash with him, since he can't seem to keep any of his own onhand. ~_~ I always hated my birthday because it was either on the Labor Day holiday itself (imagine having to watch the Jerry Lewis Telethon for your birthday, eh?) or it was on the first day of school, which was miserable due to all the kids who hated me there. Happy New Year, Pam! You like moose? Sadly, our hunting season opened up for them here on the 1st. I can imagine now that the big dogs are gone I'm going to see a few of them trying to camouflage themselves in the yard. ^_^ |

This thread is cracking me up between the free-range moose and keeping grandparents in your backyard. lol
I found out recently that moose are coming back to my part of CT (and I'm not even in the rural part). Apparently we have about 100 now, but I doubt I'll ever see one :-( We do have more coyotes than you can shake a stick at! Though I don't keep any as pets - I don't think they would get along with the buns.
DH and I both have off on Monday (same company, same holidays!). Tomorrow we're going wine tasting with some friends to a few local places in the Hudson Valley, then going out to dinner. I'm excited! I haven't been to any of these wineries, and the restaurant is an original saloon from the 19th century overlooking the Hudson River. |
