So Lolli’s a fatty cause I feed way to many treats.  She’s a big curvy fluffball who’s cute, but I really do need to get her to lose weight before she gets older.  She’s gonna be 2 in September.   Besides cutting out treats and limiting pellets, is there anything else I can do?

They get unlimited timothy hay (which she eats really well), timothy pellets, and lettuce.   I don’t measure their pellets, but they get maybe 1/4 cup.  I used to give them unlimited pellets, but I’m stopping that as well so I can force them to eat more hay.

I was trying to think of ways to get her more active, like trying to train her to jump or something, but she doesn’t come up to me, would laugh at me for trying to get her to do it, and I’d  have to use treats which kind of defeats the purpose.

I decided to stop giving treats yesterday and they are going into withdrawal.  LOL  I really didn’t think I was giving them that many treats, that often, but they are driving me nuts with the begging and Eddie got in trouble for trying to bite my ankle cause he wanted treats.  Little poophead.

i think youre doing the right thing by cutting down treats and just give her more playtime so she could shed those extra weight.

Your plan is a good one, especially cutting down treats and not doing unlimited pellets anymore.
But do this gradually, not all at once. Bunnies are very sensitive to changes in diet, and too much (or too little) too soon can upset their digestion. Just reduce slowly over the next few weeks, and a month from now you should have some healthy habits in place and bunnies that will be able to exercise more easily.

Also, you can substitute healthy treats for fattening ones. Like at first, treat with baby carrots, a small slice of banana OR apple (not both, and not daily) or buy some of the premade veggie or timothy treats that are made out of hay and better food without the fattening sweets and additives.

I will still try to do some treats. Definitely cut back on the pellets.

Treats can be anything the bunny likes that you feed from hand to mouth. You can try some pieces of parsley or other veggies they really like, or remove a portion of their daily pellets and feed those thru out the day by hand. Matchstick carrots make a great treat too.

Haha I just had to laugh at this- bunnies are such little divas!

I am still giving them treats, just not as many throughout the day. I’ve been home on medical leave and I realized that I was sometimes giving them treats whenever they wanted some. So Eddie’s getting pissy about that cause he’s not getting something when he wants it. lol

And the day I start severely limiting the treats is the day that they mess with the candy basket with dove chocolate in it. They have NEVER shown any interest in this basket on my coffee table until last night. I know it was coincidence but still. They only ate maybe 1/4 of a piece so they are fine. Leave it my bunnies to go on a sugar binge. LOL

Eep! Keep the chocolate away fromt hem. Put it somewhere they can’t reach, not good for bunbuns

Since it was at night and I was tired and they dumped all the dove chocolate on the floor, I threw them all out. I only found 2 pieces that were nibbled on. And I didn’t have internet yesteday, so I freaked out and contacted my friend who looked it up. She found info that said to make sure they have plenty of hay and pellets so they can basically get it thru their system fast. Neither of them had any bad reactions. Sigh.

They had never bothered the basket before so it’s one of those things that never occurred to me to keep an eye on it. Cause they generally can’t get to stuff on the coffee table unless they pull mail off. So yeah….I will be keeping a better eye on my sugar-withdrawal bunnies! lol
