British woman throws cat in the trash, caught on video

Pitching a cat into a garbage bin has landed a British woman under police protection, while animal lovers have gone online to skewer her publicly

The woman was identified by the London Sun as bank worker Mary Bale, 50.

The newspaper’s headline on Tuesday screamed “Cruel cat woman named and shamed.”

On Saturday, a woman was caught on a closed-circuit television camera caressing the cat’s head and looking around as it walked near her on a wall in Coventry.

Moments later, the woman opens the hinged lid of a large green bin, tosses the cat inside, and then walks away.

The cat, a four-year-old pet named Lola and owned by Stephanie Andrews-Mann and her husband Darryl, was discovered by its owners some 15 hours later, covered in its own feces and urine.

The couple started a Facebook page called Help Find The Woman Who Put My Cat In The Bin. As of Tuesday, there were more than 15,000 supporters.

Some of the comments range from anger to extreme hatred, threatening the woman with death and dismemberment.

One reader said he would ” . . . brutally murder her and then mail off pieces of her to both catfood companies and her own family.”

But John Hennesy’s comment was more typical, saying he ” . . . would like to put her in a bin for 15 hours and starve her fat ass of food.”

Police officers are on duty outside Bale’s home. She was questioned by animal protection authorities on Tuesday, but there was no immediate word on what came from that meeting.

Police said they could not charge her because no criminal offence had been committed.

A spokesman for animal rights organization PETA said they process some 300 cases of severe animal cruelty each week.

Martin Mersereau, directs PETA’s emergency response division, told Postmedia News from his office in Washington that authorities should “throw the book” at the perpetrator.

“This landed on my desk this morning and we’re horrified,” he said. “The sadists, bullies and cowards who do this pose a threat to the community,” he said, adding those who hurt animals are often cruel to other humans.

On a cautionary note, he said pet owners need to take steps to protect their animals.

“The vast majority of cases we deal with involve animals that were outside and unattended,” Mersereau said. “This would have been avoided had she been inside. We wouldn’t let our children wander around.”

        Just blew me away.
“Police said they could not charge her because no criminal offence had been committed”
uumm… let’s see… you know what she did was wrong, I know what she did was wrong and SHE obviously knew what she did was wrong as she was looking around making sure know one whitnessed her
What the heck is the matter with people these days? This woman is obviously mentally ill, normal people don’t play with a freindly pet and then toss it into a garbage can with a lid on it!
        uuuugghhhhhhh …

So she was petting the cat to get it to trust her, and then she dumped it in a bin to starve?

          What a psycho!

            I saw that. Horrible.

On the bright side, the 13 year old trolls of the world will see to it that she gets her revenge, I’m sure. With her name published like that and all that outrage I’m sure she’ll be getting her phone blown up, pizzas sent to her door, and all sorts of harassment. It’s shockingly easy to track somebody down with a scrap of information these days.

And she deserves it. Normally I feel bad for people who get targeted and so on because something went viral online. But in the case of animal cruelty…. no, I really don’t. This is why my professor said “ethics is never doing anything you wouldn’t want put on the front page of the newspaper.” Not saying I condone harassment or would participate, and I think the death threats are over the top. But what she did is pretty $*&!ed up. If you don’t like cats, the simple solution is… ignore them?

I’ve seen this video and she’s obviously a psychopath. She pets the cat and then puts him in the trash.

That’s really sick. She’s stable minded enough to hold a job at a bank so she can’t be totally “gone”. Unfortunately, what she did was quite mild compared to some of the cruel cases PETA deals with on a regular basis. This is why I keep all my pets inside. You never know what kind of people might come across them.

I’m just so elated that the cat is fine and save in the end!

Unfortunately people like this get media coverage. If they were shunned or actually prosecuted like they should be, there’d be a few less of them in the world, methinks.

Poor kitty. Glad to hear he is safe and sound now.
