Back in June I decided Lola and I had to get serious about losing some weight. Last year I had lost from 270 down to 255 and Lola had gone from 7lb 12 oz (her weight when I adopted her) down to 7, mostly through making sure she got plenty of exercise time.

It was hard rationing her pellets when she lived with Daisy and then with the group for a short time, but now she’s in a  condo by herself and is on a 99.5% diet of hay and lots more veggies. She gets 12 pellets twice a day. I know that small amount may seem silly and I should cut them out all together, but it seems very important to her to have those few minutes of AAAHHHHHHH.

For the first few weeks, she’d gulp them down and tear up her condo looking for more. Now she eats slowly and enjoys them one at a time and is content when they’re gone.

In the little bit of time early in the morning when the temps are actually cool, I take her outside to the fenced area and she loves to run around in the grass. Between that and lots of out time in the house she is pretty active. Even at her heaviest she was an enthusiastic climber and jumper.

As of this morning she now weighs 4 lbs 14 oz!!!! On an active week she’s losing an ounce and I’m very proud of her. Since I handle her a lot more and picking her up might mean she’s going outside she doesn’t bite me as much either. Until she realizes that we’re going to the table for a brushing and then it’s game on!

Edited to put before and after photos together…..

Photos on the left are BEFORE at 7+ lbs, the right this morning at 4 lbs 14 oz. Now you really can see that deer shaped face I hear about on rexes   😉

I know we had a weight loss thread going before, it would be nice to start one again. One of my goals was to be able to have enough lap to click the bunnies nails there and to be able to get down on the floor to interact with them and it is getting easier now.

Lola’s on a hay/veggie diet, I’m doing Atkins (which has really changed a lot since I did it 10 years ago)

Anyone else buddying up with their bunny to lose weight?

Congratulations on your weight loss :~) I’m so impressed you’ve gotten Lola down to the size she should be. I bet she feels better too. I know it takes tough love to do this too.

I need to do a diet and so do my rabbits – I need your discipline!

You can definitely see the difference in Lola too. WOW!!!

Thanks Sarita, she’s almost there, but I’ve still got a ways to go. At 229 this morning, at 5’10” I should be 175 tops (don’t think that’s going to happen) It is nice going in and buying a 1X shirt instead of a 3x for sure. I should cut them up and use as backing for some sheepskin blankies…some really large ones….lol

I’ve about decided Lola is happier as a people bunny. She won’t tolerate anyone but Daisy, but with Dammitcharlie just inches away, so she does have bunny company. She just seems like a different girl since I spend more one on one time with her, still quick with the teeth but more willing to see what you’re up to before she rips your throat out 😉

AND………….no more butt baths for her!, She can keep herself much cleaner now.

I’m glad you are feeling better about yourself :~) It’s quite an accomplishment and I know you will get to your goal – I mean you gotta catch up with Lola LOL.

              Dammitcharlie – that’s so funny.

I bet Lola is happy not to have those dang butt baths anymore too.

Wooo hooo!!! Congrats on your weight loss as well as Lolas! She’s looking very svelte now!

Keep up the good work with your diet!

Kralspace, this is great! For both of you. I’m very impressed! Sadly Rumball only lost very little when I got him but the change in his body shape was very apparent but it doesn’t show well in pictures. He seemed to pick up energy wise too. Is Lola even more active now?

Haha, my little Chacha doesn’t need to lose weight.. but she has a teeny tiny dewlap that is simply cute

Since I moved in with my dad in December of 2009, there are snacks and food everywhere. when I lived with my mom, I was used to just eating a meal and never snacking. My dad always makes white rice, so I ate that too much.. so I gained 10 pounds that nobody can tell that I have *rolleyes*.

Anyhow, I’ve started going to La Fitness with a friend of mine. We do cycling together, I go with her twice a week. We get there early in the morning, so we do some weights and then do cycling for an hour. Cycling is CRAZY! it kicked my ass!! But I love it!

I generally do not believe in scales but i weighed myself at the gym. i am not going for ‘i need to lose so and so pounds,’ but I am going til I fit one of my favorite pairs of skinny jeans

Wow and yippe hurray for such an amazing shrinkage job on Lola! I can hardly believe it! I think you did right still giving her those counted pellets. It is safer to go very gradual and not too drastic in bunny weight loss regimens. I am so impressed with how Lola changed! You probably added many years to her life by doing this. You should call yourself the Rabbit Weight Watchers.

For yourself, you can do it too, I imagine it is easier to stick to a diet than to make another person or a pet do it…

Have you heard of the Fit for Life diet where you separate carbs from proteins to speed up metabolism? My brother-in-law was overweight his whole life until he decided to go on this diet and shed half his weight using this method. He didn’t exercise and it has been a few years and he never gained it back.

She looks so good! Good luck to both of you in continued healthy efforts.
