So Zeus’s one big “fear” is having all four feet off the ground.  If you pick him up he flails like his tail is on fire and will not stop flailing until he’s put down.  I couldn’t even get him into my lap because that meant his back feet wouldn’t be on the floor.  He’d happily flop his “front end” across my lap, but those back feet would stay firmly planted on the ground.

Well I’ve been working on it, and whenever he’d flop his front end in my lap, I’d pet his head with one hand, and with the other, lift one of his back legs up towards my lap at a time.  Then scoop his butt up into my hand and lift him just like half an inch off the ground.  Rinse, repeat over and over and over.  I never pushed him to the point of being frightened, he’d just give me a look like “Ok, enough” and hop away when he was feeling done.

This morning he was flopped with the front end in my lap, and I very carefully and slowly scooped his butt up and scooted it up into my lap as well.  All 4 feet were in my lap.  He was wide eyed for a minute, but when the pets didn’t stop he decided to just hang out in my lap for a good 2 or 3 minutes!  He totally relaxed and had his eyes half-shut and everything. . Then he hopped down to go explore, but was definitely not afraid at all.

Yay!  I’m glad we’re making progress.  He’s such a huge cuddler that I think once he learns all 4 feet off the ground doesn’t have to be scary, he’ll enjoy hanging out in my lap.  I’m just glad for this morning’s small victory!

I don’t know, he looked a bit stunned when I scooted him up into my lap, initially.  But once the pets continued he was ok.
