Hi there – I’m new on this forum and have had this wonderful bunny in my life for a month. He was surrendered by one of our patients at our acupuncture clinic, she was too mentally ill to take care of him anymore. She played with him a lot and he is super-tame. I’m wondering what kind of bunny he is, jerseygirl on this site said he may be a mini-rex, which seems about right, he weighs about 3-ish pounds and is approx. 1 year old. He is going to get fixed in a couple of weeks, he’s peeing on my couch a little too much even though he’s litter-trained! In the second picture you can see how much my cats like Mr. Bun-Bun, which is not much at all! Thanks for any advice or ideas about my new friend!

I think jerseygirl is right… he looks very velvety like a mini rex! He’s CUTE!

haha, I just replied in your other thread. On seeing these larger pictures I’m more positive he’s a mini rex. Castor coloured. His head shape in the 2nd pic looks more like the dwarf breeds but I guess that’s where the “mini” comes from.

Lolli is a mini rex even though you can’t really tell. She’s a fatty. lol Anywho…..Mr Bun-Bun’s head does look very similar to Lolli’s, so I’m also guessing a mini rex. A second look – their bodies look awfully similar too. hehe If he lets you pet him, you are soooo freaking lucky. lol My Lolli doesn’t like being touched which sucks since she’s so soft and velvety.

Definitely has the head shape and fur of a rex, mini by his size

                  Hi, and welcome!
The most telling characteristic for a rex or mini rex is how their fur feels. It is literally like velvet. Also, it stays feeling like velvet when they are adults. So if you pet him and say “he’s just like velvet” instead of “he’s so silky” then yep, you have a mini rex. Chances are he’s mixed with something else which is more common in pets.

He’s so pretty. Definitely a rex too. Maybe mini, maybe not, but that’s not important. I love the rexes too – softest fur ever and those little wrinkles in their faces, so much character.

Hi, Welcome to BB! He’s so cute! Mini Rex’s are great bunnies but watch out!!! They are total brats!

Apparently I’m lucky to have adopted a lap rabbit! Some days he lays in my lap for hours and falls asleep. Today so far he only wanted to cuddle for 10 seconds before running off to get into mischief. I should have named him “Destroyer.” Before I had wrapped the electrical wires behind my entertainment center he ignored them. Now that they’re wrapped he seems to think the plastic tubing is a toy. Bratty is right!

                              Pretty boy!

I bet the cat will adjust. It’s better that the cat has a “stay away from me” attitude rather than a “I want to play with you…. in that very special way” look.

                                LPT, au contraire!
My mini rex was very sweet – especially compared to my present…ahem…diva.

That’s funny that you say you should have named him “Destroyer”. When Stormy, my Mini-Rex, was younger we called him “Destructor” He can be sweet and charming but he is very demanding and always gets what he wants because I can’t say no!!

Uh-oh, do I have to worry about a bunnynapper?
I don’t know enough about rabbit breeds to tell that mrmac’s bunnies are the same kind as mine – ? Except Dennis on the end there looks like he has the same face and eyes. Is my bunny full-grown (approx. 1 year old) or will he get bigger?

He may get a little bigger but around 1 year was when mine stopped growing. Dennis is a mini rex and Dexter is a rex/plush lop thing?! I love rex bunnies! Bunnynap?! Who me?!

Hmmm I think he’s a mini, he really doesn’t seem like he’s going to get any bigger. I was about to give mrmac the okay to steal Mr. Bun-Bun after he peed on my couch for the fourth time. It’s my fault, I gave him too many chances, now when he jumps up on the couch he either goes right into my lap, where I know he won’t pee, or back on the floor. We can try again when he’s fixed, but for now Bun-Bun is banned from the couch!
Don’t know whether he’s pure-bred or not, doesn’t matter to me at all, I’m assuming the person who surrendered him got him from a pet store though – isn’t that where they all come from? At least in a big city?
One more question, how much are bunnies supposed to pee? I feel like he’s peeing A LOT more now that he’s at my house. It’s really hot so maybe he’s drinking more water, also he switched over to mainly fresh veg/hay diet where before he was more on a pellet/hay diet. I changed his cage yesterday (again, too small, but the new one is coming tomorrow), but I swear it looks half-soaked in urine. Maybe I’m just being paranoid, he seems perfectly healthy and happy and ready to get into trouble….
Also Mr. Bun-Bun is showing warning signs of being an alcoholic… I opened a beer last night which overflowed onto the floor, and he immediately ran into the puddle and began frantically licking it up, and I was trying to shoo him away and clean it up as quickly as possible… I assume they’re just attracted to the sugars in alcohol? Anyway I’ll try not to spill any more booze around him now that I know he has a problem.

haha! Well, maybe he’s tasted beer before. Funny, my siggy used to read something about bunaholics anonymous meetings but that was meant for the bunny slaves, not the buns themselves!

His drinking (water) could be because he’s eating hay. And the heat of course.

He’s beautiful!!! Definitely a rex rabbit, and at only 3 pounds and a year old, I think it’s safe to say he’s a mini. My mini rex is just under 4 pounds.
